Armourdale, Kansas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Armourdale is a district in the lower part of the Kansas River valley in Kansas City, Kansas. It is a main district between the West Bottoms and the Rosedale, Kansas area. It is home mainly to Mexican Americans, and many small and large companies in its east side. The Kansas River makes a horse-shoe like curve around the entire district, and is home to Shawnee Park.

[edit] History

The Armourdale district was founded in 1881 as Armourdale, Kansas. In the early 1900s, it joined the city of Kansas City, Kansas and was changed from Armourdale, Kansas, to the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas. In 1903, it was hit by the 1903 Kansas City flood, and again in 1951, this time damage added up to about 50,000,000 dollars. The 1993 flood, however, did no damage as the new floodwalls held up, and protected Armourdale from waters.
