Neoachiropsetta milfordi Günther, 1880 |
The armless flounder, Neoachiropsetta milfordi, is a southern flounder, the only species in the genus Neoachiropsetta. It is found in Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters, in depths of between 100 and 1,000 m, and grows to between 30 and 60 cm in length.
The armless flounder has both eyes on the left side of the head and lies on its right side. It has the typical flattened oval shape of the flounder with the spineless dorsal and anal fins forming a fringe around most of the body. It is more elongated than most other flounders, and the pectoral fins and scales are absent.
The colouring is pale white-brown.
