Armando J. Tirado

Armando J. Tirado American, born in Anaco, Venezuela, is the Regional General Counsel, Europe and Middle East, for Intelsat Global Sales and Marketing, Ltd.. He has practiced law for more than 19 years, as in-house counsel with multinational corporations, and as a private practitioner.

Prior to joining Tyco, Mr. Tirado worked as General Counsel, Corporate & International (LA&C) for Tyco International, Vice President and General Counsel for DHL Worldwide Express, Regional Counsel for FedEx, and Senior Director and Regional Counsel for Ingram Micro.

He started practicing law in 1988 with PDVSA, at the time one of the largest energy consortia in the world. He practiced in London with Slaughter and May as a visiting Solicitor, in New Orleans for two years as of counsel to a conglomerate of international firms, and in Miami, with Gunster Yoakley Valdes-Fauli & Stewart.

He is a Solicitor, member of the Law Society and licensed to practice in England and Wales, and also an Attorney at law in Florida, New York and Louisiana. He is also admitted to the practice of law in Venezuela, and a member of the Colegio de Abogados del Distrito Capital. He is the first (and so far the only) Florida attorney at law to have a dual certification from the Florida Bar as a Certified Foreign Legal Consultant. [1] [2]

Mr. Tirado currently serves as Co-Chair of the Corporate Counsel section of the Inter-American Bar Association and as a member of the steering committee of the South Florida Group of Regional Counsel.

He was awarded the medal Order José Félix Ribas for pro bono legal services to low income communities, by the Office of the President of the Republic of Venezuela in 1988, year of the creation of the award.

Mr. Tirado has master of law degrees from the Columbia Law School and the London School of Economics, a Juris Doctor with honors from the Tulane Law School, and an undergraduate LL.B. with honors from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB).

He is married to Virginia, also an Attorney at law and has two children: Daniel and Sylvia.
