Hi there, I'm Arlen.

I like to think I'm quite friendly. Please talk to me!

I'm currently studying Japanese, Mandarin, Korean and something else someday at Monash University in Australia. I'm also Australian.

As a result, I speak a little Mandarin, Cantonese (learned from a friend), Japanese and Korean. I also speak English, German (to halfway through year 11), Esperanto (as self taught as it can be), and some French.

I have user pages on the Chinese and Japanese Wikipedias, feel free to have a look if you read/speak those languages; any grammar or other corrections warmly accepted :)! On the topic of grammar, I tend to be a stickler for correct punctuation, tense, case, semantics, and so on in English text. I dont tolerate the abuse of apostrophe's, though I'm nice about it, I think. I also like using semi-colons; they add a certain something.

As for the technical side of things, I found a whole bunch of userboxes that explain me quite well, but take up a lot of room. I'll explain shortly instead. I don't mind webdesign; I'm apt (I think) with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, those sort of technologies. I also can use PHP, the .NET Framework, and to no real extent Perl. I think LaTeX-processed documents look best. I like SQL, and I like regular expressions even more. This explains why I am a Rubyist at heart. I came to Ruby by way of Python, and before that it was C++. I must admit, I did start out with BASIC somewhere. I can also handle assembly in varying forms, and once wrote a multitasking microkernel. I'll even touch Java, mostly for mobile applications. I once admitted to writing Pascal.

I also have a web-site!
