The sixth cycle, featuring the theme "Fairy Tales Come True," premiered on March 8, 2006. Tyra Banks served as host while Twiggy, Nigel Barker, and Miss Jay returned as judges. This cycle's crop featured thirteen potential models from ages 18 to 26 and heights ranging from 5'8" to 6'1".
The two-hour premiere episode devoted an hour to narrowing 32 finalists to 13 finalists, and the second hour featured the first photoshoot and elimination. As the girls moved into their house in Los Angeles, a drama began involving the oldest contestant, 26-year-old Jade, who claimed to be "the undiscovered supermodel" and front runner of the competition. For the photoshoot, the girls were led to believe that they would all be shaved bald as a way to level the competition, when in fact they were fitted with bald caps and posed wearing Swarovski crystals in an array of mannequin heads. Due to a weak photograph, the first girl eliminated was Kathy Hoxit, a self-described hillbilly from Brevard, North Carolina.
The following episode featured the twelve remaining contestants receiving makeovers. Some were dramatic, such as Nnenna being shaved bald, Mollie Sue receiving a Mia Farrow-type haircut, and Jade's hair being cut shorter and dyed blonde, while others were less dramatic, such as Joanie and Kari being made blonder than they already were. For the photoshoot, the girls posed with ice sculptures. Though Jade made a poor impression on the judges with her arrogance and took a poor photograph, Wendy Wiltz, whose family had been affected by Hurricane Katrina, was sent home due to her inability to transfer her modeling potential to photographs.
The fourth episode featured the eleven remaining contestants practicing the runway. Like contestants from past cycles, several girls tripped or fell during the challenge and during an impromptu Vivienne Westwood style runway challenge at judging. The girls had to do a runway with cockroaches for Jared Gold's spring collection. For the photoshoot, the girls had to take a photo while falling and were posed as a character from a popular fairy tale. Gina Choe and Kari Schmidt were in the bottom two due to poor performance in both the runway segment and the photoshoot, and Kari was sent home. However, Gina was the next to go home. In the fifth episode, the week's photoshoot involved posing as a professional in their desired career, and Gina was eliminated due to lack of confidence and potential.
In the sixth episode, the girls learned about improv by attending a workshop at The Groundlings. Later, the girls put their skills to use in a challenge led by Nick Cannon. Furonda's quick wit impressed Cannon and his friends, and she won a guest role on Veronica Mars. Furonda also won the opportunity to record a public service announcement about HIV prevention, which she shared with Nnenna. In lieu of a photoshoot that week, the girls once again had to utilize their improv skills in a commercial shoot for CoverGirl. Due to their unimpressive performances, Mollie Sue Steenis-Gondi and Jade were in the bottom two. Steenis-Gondi ultimately was sent home due to her "lack of persona."
In the seventh episode, Leslie Mancia and fellow contestant Sara Albert were in the bottom two. Subsequently, Mancia was sent home, as the judges felt that although she had potential to have a successful career as a print model, her appearance in person did not strike them as being modelesque.
