Arkebe Oqubay

Arkebe Oqubay is an Ethiopian politician. He is a former Mayor of Addis Ababa (2003-2005) and is currently a State Minister of Works and Urban Development
Elected as part of the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front coalition, on March 31, 2005 Oqubay was named "African Mayor of 2005" by Broadcasting Network of Africa. Mayor Oqubay lost the mayorship of Addis Ababa in May of 2005, but six months later his successor-elect, Berhanu Nega, was one of many politicians from the opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy party to be arrested and charged with trying to overthrow the government, and other offences.[1]
