Arkansas Midland Railway Company (AAR reporting marks AKMD) is a Class III short-line railroad headquartered in Malvern, Arkansas.
AKMD operates 99 miles (159 km) of line in Arkansas consisting of four disconnected lines, all of which interchange with Union Pacific Railroad and were either formally owned by a predecessor or are currently leased from Union Pacific:
- A 33.3 mi (54 km) line from Mountain Pine, Arkansas, through Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Malvern
- A 12 mi (19 km) line from Helena, Arkansas, to Lexa, Arkansas,
- Two lines connecting at North Little Rock, Arkansas, one is 6.6 miles (11 km) to Galloway, Arkansas, and the other is 7.4 miles (12 km) locally known as the Carlisle Industrial Lead
- A 39.4 mi (63 km) line from Warren, Arkansas, to Dermott, Arkansas, with trackage rights over an additional 5.6 miles (9 km) to McGehee, Arkansas.
AKMD traffic generally consists of forest and grain products, aggregates, bullding materials, cottonseeds, and chemicals.
AKMD is a subsidiary of Pinsly Railroad Company, a holding company owning five short-line railroads in the United States. The Mountain Pine, Helena, and Galloway lines are owned by AKMD (purchased in 1992); the Carlisle and Warren lines are leased (in 2000 and 2004, respectively).
