Arkalgud is located at 12.77° N 76.06° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 916 metres (3005 feet).

Arkalgud is very close to Hemavathi Reserviour and back water too. One of the famous poet of Kannada Language hails from Arkalgud called Aa Na Kru( Arkalgud Narasimha Krushnappa).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Arkalgud had a population of 15,184. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Arkalgud has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 57% of the males and 43% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
