Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami

Dear Arielgold, I am trying to add content and properly reference it. I am having trouble. When I add it and press save, it shows up in the edit page but not in the actual article.—Preceding unsigned comment added by NancyHeise (talkcontribs)

Nancy, I'll come take a look. ArielGold 07:21, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Okay I left instructions on your talk page, explaining what was happening. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask! Also I created a link to a "sandbox" for you, if you'd like to do the experimenting there, rather than in the article, until you get it how you like it. ArielGold 07:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Fixing the headers

Ariel Gold, I am very happy you are going to fix the headers. However, the article is so messed up right now it doesnt have hardly any information. could you please take a look at what the article looked like before DomivsVobiscm deleted most of it and replaced it with his long and detailed article on sexual abuse scandals? If I could edit it right now, I would revert to that article and then add any new and non inflammatory language subsequently added by DominvsVobiscm, if any. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NancyHeise (talkcontribs)

Yep, replied on your page :) ArielGold 07:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Charities header

ArielGold, just to let you know, CAtholic Charities is a separate organization within the Archdiocese. The items listed underneath it are not part of the organization Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami. the items underneath that are another branch of charities that are completely separate from Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities of the ARchdiocese of Miami is the name of the organization, not a subject heading. The money raised and spent by that organization is separate and does not include schools, smaller archdiocesan charities, ministries and retreats. I hope you are not getting tired of helping me because I sure appreciate your help. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nancy Heise (talk • contribs)

Fixed, let me know if that's correct or not. And you can call me Ariel, lol. You don't have to use my last name each time ArielGold 07:50, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami

Thank you for your last message, it was extremely helpful. I have saved my content on a microsoft word page and I am making the changes to my references on that. Right now, the actual article has a green tag that says we can't edit it. Can you tell me what is happening? I have complained about Dominvs using this site as a propaganda outlet for his group Christifidelis. He removes valid facts and replaces them with only information about Catholic Church sex scandals in the Archdiocese of Miami. While that is a valid topic and deserves a place in the article, it is not the only issue or fact that defines the Archdiocese of Miami. My facts have previously only cited the actual external links to these web sites but they are also referenced in third party newspapers and I would like to have the chance to add those references and include my information. Thanks. Nancy Heise NancyHeise 07:52, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Headers

Ariel, the headers are perfect now. Thank you for fixing everything. There is still a green tag on the article, should I wait a few hours before I begin adding third party references to my additions?NancyHeise 07:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I'll remove the green tag in a few hours, I actually placed it there for you, while you were editing. That tells people you're busy working on it! Replied on your talk page to the rest. ArielGold 07:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Administrator

Ariel, I would like the name of an administrator. I thank you for your very helpful advice and editing. This is the first time I have edited a Wikipedia article and I did so because I knew when I saw it for the first time a few days ago that it was seriously in need of content and was being used as a platform for propaganda by DominvsVobiscm who has vandalized other sites. It would be nice if it could actually be an unbiased and informative helpful encyclopedia entry. NancyHeise 08:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I'll be happy to provide you with the name of one of my very good friends, as well as the name of an administrator that I don't know, but who is a mediator, and would possibly be able to assist you. Also, I'm going to take the liberty of dropping some links onto your page for your reference, feel free to move them to wherever you'd like. See your talk page for more! Cheers! ArielGold 08:21, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Links

Ariel, Thanks for sending me the links.. I studied one of the articles called "featured articles" to see what an acceptable article is supposed to look like. It has all been very helpful. I will go to work on this site tomorrow - wait, it is tomorrow already! NancyHeise 08:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee yep it is! One of those sites has an "annotated" article, that goes through every single part of a great article's construction and layout, and is really helpful, let me find that and I'll drop that onto your page as well. ArielGold 08:46, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Advice needed on content of sensitive subject

Ariel, I am happy keeping the links on my talk page. Maybe the other editors of the article will use them too. I would like outside advice on how to address the sex scandals in the church in this article. There were over 400 priests in the Archdiocese until the priest sex abuse scandals happened several years ago. About 5-8 of these priests were accused of sex abuse and were removed from their posts. One accused priest died of a heart attack. The Archdiocese has been sued for all of these accusations and settled with almost all of them for about $5 million total. It also developed new policies for dealing with volunteers, employees and priests which required all to undergo fingerprinting and background checks every five years. If we were to include details of each case like Dominvsvobism is doing with the Neil Doherty scandal, the encyclopedia entry would be very lengthy on this subject. Not all the accused priests have been convicted and at least two I know are fighting the accusations saying they are innocent. (The others have acknowledged their guilt and apologized) One of them has had the State Attorney's office investigate and they officially found the accusation to not be credible. All criminal charges were dropped against him but he is still being sued by a civil lawyer. I am wondering if it is against Wikipedia policy to name accused living people before they have been convicted of a crime. I am wondering if it would be more proper to have an entry that states the facts without listing names of accused priests and have one paragraph explaining the entire subject without going into the details of each case. The priests names are on the referenced articles, I think that should be enough. I would like to know what you think on this serious subject.65.8.214.18 09:19, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

(Assuming this is Nancy, just not signed in). Okay let me again reiterate that I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, as I'm not a Catholic, so truly I can't really judge. However, initially these are my impressions and suggestions:
First, I agree that the bulk of information regarding any alleged abuses should go to Talk:Roman Catholic sex abuse cases for discussion first, and if properly referenced, then included in that article, and not take up extreme length in individual church articles. However, it is certainly worth a small mention, perhaps with the header "Controversy", as long as a reliable source is cited for the allegations. Consider the information in context with the subject: It should not be given undue weight, but should be mentioned if it was widely reported. However, the article Roman Catholic sex abuse cases should have the bulk of any information pertaining to those incidents. We must keep in line with WP:BLP, when reporting on allegations against living persons, so that also should be kept in mind when editing. I'd suggest finding an news source (reliable) that specifically says that he was charged, but charges were dropped, and a civil case is pending. And that's all that needs to be mentioned, he is not "the church" in the context of the article, and thus, the allegations should not be given significant space in that particular article. I hope that helps, but realize that these are only my initial thoughts and impressions, and it may be better to discuss it on the Talk:Roman Catholic sex abuse cases page, or ask for someone knowledgeable about Catholic culture to discuss it with you further. You made my day !

Got to my computer, logged in and There it was ! once again Fairy Ariel has been using the wand! THANX and thanx again It looks really nice, it's exactly my taste I just left the NZ banner for another time because I strive for no unnecessary nationalisms but I found it a nice touch anyway. I was adding some boxes and so, I just cannot figure out why the font in the homesick box becomes like in the text and not as in the original, but I will figure it out later. Ariel, if there is anywhere an award for Kindness or Best Welcoming WikiAmbassador tell me because you should get it! (seriously, tell me if there is or if can be created) All the best and kindest regards from a happy kiwi (think in a dancing kiwi)Daoken 10:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I am very glad you like it! As for the homesick box, the text looks the same to me, so I'm not sure what you mean. It might be your browser, are you using Firefox? You can move the homesick box down to the bottom area, or I can try and force it to look like the rest of the boxes, if you want. Just let me know, and feel free to ask if you have questions about the userbox tables or anything else. And as to the award, yes there are awards, but I'm far too modest to go pointing to them . Your thanks is more than enough, and I'm very happy you like it! Happy Day! ArielGold 10:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

New project WP:TRUEORIG

Dear Ariel, there is a project in which we could like to have people like you, it is a task which in spite of that the spirit of it is for helping, someone could feel injustified, so we need who knows what kindness is about, please give a look and see if the topic interests you WP:TRUEORIG , if it doesn't, no harm done, if it does, you will be very welcome and if you can help to make a nice workable Talk page, you will be double welcome If you don't have the time for helping with the talk page but you have some interest in helping with the topic and the project, this is more important and the reason to invite you. If the topic or the time don't fit your wikilife, no need to explain, you are enough wonderful as you are Daoken 11:09, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the invite! Reading the project page, it states: We are a group dedicated to improve Wikipedia's articles accuracy regarding cultural and historical lineage of modern religions, movements, organizations, groups and societies). (which has a number of grammatical errors I'm about to fix, lol)
I'm afraid I truly don't know much about lineage of religions, or really societies, however, I'd be happy to place the {{histref}} tag on pages I think need help! And if you'd like something done with the talk page, discuss it there to get input, but I'd be more than happy to assist if needed. Cheers! ArielGold 11:27, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the fixing, my fingers run amok and many times a write how I sound , thanks for kindly fix all that, can you just give a fast look because I was just adding a section and I think was after your fixing, sorry about that :(, will not be more adding now. Thank you also for the help to put the banners, it will surely help. From one homesick to another, so nice it is to have a smiling fairy around Daoken 11:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Third party review of Nancy Heise contribution

Ariel, thank you, I will request a third party to review and include my information. If you will notice, the material about Christifidelis and my information both have the same references. If you remove my material, you should remove the material about Christifidelis since they are both different sides of the same story published on the same referenced source.NancyHeise 12:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I'll let you remove the appropriate links ArielGold 12:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Ariel, you are an extremely helpful person, I saw how you fixed my reference and I am now using the proper format thanks to your example. I am currently going through the page and adding third party references to what is already there. Thanks, NancyHeise 12:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

You're more than welcome, feel free to ask if you run into any additional problems. I'll keep the green "under editing" tag up there for the day, and remove it later, to assist you, or if you're comfortable with removing it when you're done, feel free to do so. ArielGold 12:35, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Touched by a WikiFairy

I wonder if there is any userbox that says "This user has been visited by a WikiFairy. Thank You!" and other like "This article (or this page) has been touched by a WikiFairy. Thank You!" I would love to have those to put in my userpage and the projects page and I know many people would like to add them too in thanks to the WikiFaerie who helped them. If doesn't exist, can I propose it somewhere? Daoken 12:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hrmm, I don't think so, but I'll tell you what, I'll make you a userbox for it later today. It wouldn't be appropriate for the project space, but that's okay. But you can always "smile" at people for any reason. I'll show you on your talk page. ArielGold 12:42, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Loved the smile. About the two boxes for thanking Wikifaeries, can you add (small) "show your appreciation to your helping Wikifaerie with this banner" ? or something like that? Nothing urgent, when you have the time and disposition will be just great, in the meaning time keep making your good actions everywhere Daoken 13:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Schools

Ariel, Do I need third party references for the information about the Archdiocesan schools. There are something like 38 different schools. Is it enough that this fact is taken from the Archdiocese website? I saw in the guidelines that if something is a fact, it does not need a third party reference. Please let me know what you think. NancyHeise 12:42, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah that reference should be fine. If you were commenting on the school itself, such as teaching quality, then you'd need outside references, but just to list them, no, you can take that from the Archdiocese site. ArielGold 12:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

help

Ariel, DominvsVobiscm has deleted all my entries twice this morning.NancyHeise 18:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Need your opinion please

Could you give a look in my sandbox and see what you think of those banners before I present them to the Kindness project ? I just worked on your model with my poor skills, but are banners I intend to propagate. Thanks Daoken 16:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism continues

Ariel, I have spent hours adding third party references and external links to this page. DominvsVobiscm is repeatedly eliminating all my work and reverting to an earlier very incomplete and very biased version.NancyHeise 18:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello!

I got your message! Have not chatted in a while whats up? I see you are doing great here, making wiki friends! Hope all is well on wiki and IRL. Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 17:35, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami

Dear Ariel, I just saw you response to my previous email. I am removing the three items from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami article that deal with sexual abuse allegations and homosexuality and replacing them with a reference to the Wikipedia article on that subject. Thanks for your unbiased advice.NancyHeise 18:38, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I have done everything that can be done to the site Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami. I think I am finished editing. Could you please take a look and see if there is anything else to be done? If the tags could be removed and the article rated and protected from vandalism I would be most grateful. NancyHeise 19:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Edit on my user page (sebleblanc)

I'm sorry I got you confused, but the anonymous contributor that edited my sandbox was really no other than myself. I did not notice I was not logged in, although I could have used a more appropriate summary than the random crap I wrote. Yes, I did have butterflies in my house. I even had one on my monitor! Have a nice day! :) --Sébastien Leblanc ( Talk | E-mail ) 20:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry, it was only a sandbox. Anyway, MediaWiki keeps histories of all revisions of a page.
Thank you for being alert in fighting vandalism! --Sébastien Leblanc ( Talk | E-mail )
Oh I know you could have gotten the revision back, was just explaining my reasoning why I thought it wasn't you! ~*Grin*~ Thanks! ArielGold 23:12, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

WikiFairy box

Hi Ariel. Thank you for the WikiFairy box. Do you mind if instead of "this user's page" says simply "this page" in case is a talk page or so ? and can I add in italics "Thank you!" ? If you are ok with that I can make the changes, if you think is not OK then we leave it like that. I just wanted to show thanks and not only say that a WikiFairy was there, perhaps both cases can happen ? I don't know, let me know.

About the banners in my sandbox, are not for templates like officially or so, just kind of boxes or messages for kindness use, I noticed that there are not truce messages like that available, only an old proposal of sending a dove, I just wanted to contribute to resolve situations, in my real life I am often called to mediate in nasty crisis. I will present those as proposal to the WikiProject Kindness if you think is ok.

About the email, that is fine, sorry to have send it and apologies if you took it perhaps felt as an invasion of privacy, the mpeg was just a short one with the most hilarious Levis advertisement I have seen, so just wanted to send you a laugh after you have send me so many reaasons to smile, sorry if was out of etiquette.

About you wonderful boxes at ArielGold/Boxes2 , can be used by others ? (is there a template or so). Are very nice tools for a soft approach and informative enough for getting the attention needed, well done!

One last question, at the Project you were invited, we have a bit of a problem with the templates because they don't cause that the categories appear automatically in the pages where placed (neither the "histref" nor the "participant" one. Also the pics in the participant in some browsers as Neoplanet appear with white background looking messy. If and when you have the time, could you give a look at those, I cannot figure it out. The most important is the matter of making the categories appear automatically.

As always, loooots of thanks. Daoken 17:06, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Your ArielGold/Boxes2

Hi i saw your afterthought message in my talkpage. You got it wrong, I just admired your work and was wondering if in a given situation was better than the standard issue, I don't go around like a lone ranger, what gave you that thought? I am very often called to be a crisis mediator in my job never an avenger crusader. Shame you left that message because it may look as if I have been going around on a private raid :( Daoken 20:18, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

No no, you misunderstood my comment, in no way do I suggest you're doing that, I'm simply saying if you are interested in doing Recent changes patrol, it is a good idea to not just jump into it, that's all. I'm sorry if it came across in a way other than it was intended. I'll see if I can clarify it, but honestly I meant it as an offer of help, should you be interested in getting into Recent Changes patrol. ArielGold 20:20, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
I use my custom boxes exclusively for recent-changes patrol, so when you asked if you could use them, I assumed that was the reason you'd be using them for, since they specifically relate to vandalism, blanking pages, or other common issues found during RC Patrol. That's why I made that assumption, so my apologies again. ArielGold 20:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

No need to apologize, I know you don't do things for bad, I didn't get bad about what you said, just looked bad in my talk page to the occasional reader who didn't know why you urged me to take it slowly, that's all. Do not worry about, no harm done, you are still the best in my wikiheart Daoken 20:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Daoken, its your talk page, feel free to erase or archive the comment if you like. It would not upset me at all. Archiving is preferred, but not required, so if you would prefer the comment not be on there, remove it, or ask me, and I'll remove it. I was just offering my assistance should you be interested in getting into RC patrol, based on your interest in my warning boxes. I'm sorry you saw my offer as something someone would think was negative, as it was in no way intended that way. But seriously, if you'd like to erase the comment, feel free to do so. ArielGold 20:39, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the editing, we can add Fairness to all the other great things about you Daoken 21:00, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't have any problem admitting when I've made a mistake, and I try to do everything I can to fix it, when possible. ArielGold 21:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Lawrence Lande

Before you start dropping unverified messages on pages other people are in the process of writing, I suggest you actually check the history to determine whether or no the author has been working on the article for longer than 10 minutes.

Please try to show a greater degree of ettiquette to those who are trying to make Wikipedia a richer resource, in future.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelad101 (talkcontribs)

Dear Thelad101, Contrary to your criticism, I actually did look at not only the article's history, but your edit history as well as your contributions. I noticed you've had pages deleted before, but I assumed good faith, and decided not to pass judgment on the article, though I question the notability. I added the "unreferenced" tag for assistance to others who may want to help the article, and the adding of that tag does nothing to detract from the content. I also stated specifically in my edit summary that while I (at that time) question the notability, it was not possible to tell without references, so I was leaving it open. (Summary says: (add unref tag, add ref section, ext links section, question WP:NN. Can't tell without refs)) I would request that you not be so defensive, and realize that those tags are there to assist others, who may also wish to contribute to the article's growth. I should note that you removed the tag, but did not provide any properly referenced, reliable sources. I'd encourage you to put the tag back so others may assist in the article's development. Sincerely, ArielGold 05:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Reliable sources???

If an article is about a famous author and manuscript collector who donated a significant collection to McGill University and the article contains an external link to the website of McGill University confirming the same, how can you possibly state that the page cites no reliable sources?

There is one article that I had deleted. If you look at the history of the thing, you will see that I had it deleted after rewriting it, but thank you for your grace and presumption of good faith.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelad101 (talkcontribs)

Let me see if I can explain this, and do so in a way that you don't feel defensive. I will re-state that nothing I did to the article hurts it, in fact, it is to assist in the article's development. (I'd gently remind you to keep in mind that you do not own an article, just because you create it.) I do understand wanting to see your work be productive, and I was trying to help you. Again, I simply added sections that were missing to the article to help others, and placed a tag stating it needed references. You are creating an article about a person. Thus, it is a biography. For the purposes of verifiability, references must be cited. I do not argue with any facts in the article, and I have no doubt that the person did donate his collection to the university. Let me review the official policy regarding articles for you:
Wikipedia:Verifiability is one of Wikipedia's core content policies. The others include Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Jointly, these policies determine the type and quality of material that is acceptable in Wikipedia articles. They should not be interpreted in isolation from one another, and editors should try to familiarize themselves with all three.
"Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy."
Now, considering this is a biography, the details of the gentleman's life need to be verified, by a third party published source. The University is certainly a valid external link, but it should not be the only reference in the article, because it is associated with the subject. I am more than sure if you do some research, you can find news articles published on the man, since the article states he was an author, certainly something he published was reviewed at some point?
Allow me to direct you to the specific guidelines that you can use, it is a list of criteria for biographies that you can read, going down the list, finding areas that are applicable to your particular subject, and use those as a jumping-off point towards getting references relating to the subject. In this case, Lawrence would be considered a Creative professional, as an author. (It should be noted that when it says "The person's work has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition", the policy is referring to his original work, i.e. any books he wrote.)
If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may need to be cited to establish notability.
Please note that I am not arguing the notability, I am just stating that per the policies here, notability needs to be verified, that's all. And the tag I placed simply alerted anyone else interested in the subject, that references were needed, thus allowing them to come help the article's development. I hope that clears up not only my motivations for placing an "unreferenced" tag, but also the policies behind biographies to assist you in further developing the article. Let me know if you have any further questions, or would like any input. Thanks, ArielGold 06:00, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks, yeah, sorry -- I was going to leave you a note about your comments but I'm really busy at the moment -- I was just worried about tiding over the mediation so it won't spin out of control while I'm gone for a few days. I didn't mean to imply by moving them that your comments weren't useful. I'll leave a more responsive message in the next couple of days. Andre (talk) 23:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Andre, absolutely no worries I thought that! I don't consider my participation integral to the mediation, and I am not at all upset that you didn't leave a note, truly! You do your RL stuff and have fun if you can, and this will still be here when you return. ArielGold 23:36, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Mediation

Ariel, I sent this same note to Andrew Fader. He is moving from home to college for the next few days so I am asking you also to do this if he can not. I object to the page Roman Catholic Archdiocese being locked as it is with DominvsVobiscm's version. There are changes he made that are inflammatory and incorrect. As the page stands right now, it is a propaganda tool of the catholic and homosexual hate group of Christifidelis. I request that the version be reverted back to my non inflammatory version until the dispute is resolved. I thank you for your efforts to resolve our little spat. NancyHeise 01:13, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nancy, I would suggest that you just post that information on the mediation, be sure to mention the current revision is incorrect, and specifically quote incorrect passages, with what you had them as, along with references (but don't use the ref tag, since there are no footnotes in the mediation page) I'm not able to revert it back, and until it is mediated, I don't know if another admin would be willing to revert Andre's decision. I do understand fully your concern, and I did notice it was locked with that version, but as I'm not an admin, there truly isn't much I can do that I have not done already. All I can say is be as precise, factual, and neutral as possible when making the notation on the mediation page (which you always are, so that's not really an issue), be sure to list the resources, and don't forget to (~) sign the post! *Grin*. Flnclan

Thanks for asking me about this user's actions. Please look at User talk:Flnclan for some background about the ongoing problems this user has been causing. I believe that this user has edited under Zim2007 (talk · contribs), Thehalo1noob (talk · contribs), Angrygamer (talk · contribs), and Flnclan (talk · contribs). After I first asked this user this question, the Zim2007 account started vandalizing. Another admin blocked Zim2007. Ever since that time, this individual creates account after account. It seems like every time a question about this is posted on the newest account's talk page, that account goes into hibernation and the individual creates another brand new account. This individual has been repeatedly asked about this situation, but he never verifies or denies this suspected sockpuppetry. Instead, he totally denies mine and other's questions. The newest account name, Flnclan, has now been making all sorts of inappropriate changes to the user pages and talk pages of the earlier accounts. This includes removing the sockpuppet templates like you mentioned in your comment to me. I would encourage you to look into this. My latest message on Flnclan's talk page warns him that if he continues to make edits to the user pages and talk pages of the older accounts (like removing the suspected sockpuppet templates) he will be blocked from editing. As a brand new admin, I would certainly welcome some help/advice in this matter. --MatthewUND(talk) 02:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

RFCN archives

Thanks for offering to help archiving! Let me know if you have any questions. Flyguy649 talk contribs 03:24, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Well thanks to YOU for doing such a bang-up job on getting that organized! It rocks, seriously. And I've talked to Vid, who let me know what to do, and I've also watched how User:i has been doing it, so when I see any needing archiving, I'll do it. Just let me know if I bungle something! ArielGold 03:32, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad you like it! You've got it basically right. Click "Permanent link" in the Toolbox section on the left side of the page. Click the report you're archiving on the TOC and copy the url. Put it in alphabetical order in the archive page with format *[url Username] - allow/Disallow. Then remove the report from the RFCN page. The good thing is that if reports are removed without archiving, they're easy to add to the archive a future date via the page history. That's what I've been doing with the older reports. As for the date, I don't think it's necessary. It was part of my original plan to have one list. But User:I suggested using the Month as a header, which made the dates unnecessary. And frankly it was a bit of extra fussiness in the archiving process - easier is better! Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I think if there are three or four of us archiving, it should work out fine. Thanks again! Flyguy649 talk contribs 03:47, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
If it helps, on the RFCN page, "Permanent Link" is the bottom option. The full list (on that page) is:

It figures that the first report you got to archive then generated a lot of discussion... nothing to do with you, of course! And my it's gotten a bit hot over at RFCN! Anyway, good job... I guess you can just change the link later. Cheers! Flyguy649 talk contribs 15:12, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I guess there were bound to be some hiccups in trying to start a new process, so don't take Lucid's words as an indictment of your actions. It's new to everyone. Ultimately if leaving up closed discussions for a few hours is what others want, then that's what will happen for now. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 17:12, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

RFA

I'm not merely an anonymous commentator, I'm the specific subject of discussion regarding Trusilver's judgement, and one about whom he has made objectively false statements, so yes, I feel perfectly entitled and qualifed to comment. --61.45.36.159 04:50, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

I do completely understand what you're saying, but the fact is, the way the RfA policy works, as an "IP" editor, you are considered "anonymous", and you do not get a vote. That is the only reason I suggested creating a username, as this wouldn't be a problem in the future. I understand your frustration, but you also have to understand that there are policies that are followed, and unfortunately, as an IP editor, your options are less than a registered user. I'm very sorry you feel your voice is not being heard, but your comments were transferred to the RfA's talk page, and you're able to continue the subject there. I'll drop a copy of this on your talk page, as well so you see it. Again, my apologies, but I do hope you understand. ArielGold 04:57, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Google

A regular google search does not pick up most news articles, and a normal google news search only picks up news stories from the past month. Try the google news archive search, it will pick up articles back into the 1800's. Many require payment, but there is usually at least an abstract, and enough information to build a proper citation in most cases. - Dean Wormer 03:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Ahhh, yeah I always have used the normal "news" search, so that's how you found that old info! Tricky Tricky! Good job! ArielGold 03:25, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Omani cuisine

Thank you for the heads-up, but I did not copy it from any website, I simply-cut-and-pasted it from the Oman article, after cleaning up some vandalism from it. Whoever put that section in the Oman article was the one who copy-viod it. That would explain why it looked like it existed previously, based on text in the core article. Do what you need to with it. Chris 08:45, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Ahh, gotcha, okay I've put a tag on it that says it is specifically copy/pasted from the website, so hopefully someone can clean that up! However, you should realize you should not copy information from one Wikipedia article, and create a new article with that exact information, as that too is considered copyright violation, see Wikipedia:Reusing_Wikipedia_content for more information. If you are duplicating part of a Wikipedia article, you must follow section two of the GFDL on verbatim copying, as discussed at Wikipedia:Verbatim copying. ArielGold 08:51, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again, but I've been here two years and am familiar. I didn't direct copy it from the Oman article, I cut-and-pasted it as it was too large and unwieldy within the parent national article itself. Splitting out overgrown sections of articles into new articles is done all the time and is most common, I was being bold. It wasn't recreating the information, it was moving it to new space where there is a series of articles for other nations, in accordance with WP:MoS. You have a nice evening. Chris 08:59, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Gotcha, well, either way, the text was word for word, so it was that way with the original Oman article. I realize that wasn't your contribution, nor were you aware of the copyvio issues, so the text was removed and link placed in its place, and I added an expand tag. Thanks! Apologies if you took my notices as anything other than me trying to be helpful. ArielGold 09:02, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Vandalbot blocks

Just an FYI, but I went through your recent edits and I blocked all of the vandalbots that you reverted. Luckily, you have a very consistent reversion summary so I was able to quickly sort out the vandalbots. =) -- Gogo Dodo 06:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Very nice! Thank you for doing that, I was going to gather all those into a summary if needed, you saved me that work! Thanks tons Gogo Dodo! (Love the name, btw) ArielGold 06:18, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I already wrote this at WT:AIV but decided it might also be helpful to let you know here: Here's a trick I use; if you have to report something right away or get something quickly under control, just go to either the block log or the deletion log. Nine times out of ten the situation will get looked over shortly. :) -WarthogDemon 06:27, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I have both those pages on the page I have for reference, but with issues like this "one edit per IP" deal, I'm not sure that would really help. Definitely would help with the last report I did lol. Thanks WHD! ArielGold 06:29, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Er, I guess I left out the important part. I use that if I think a situation needs to be looked over by an admin asap. When that's the case, I go and talk to whomever was the last person to block/delete something. Nine times out of ten I catch them when they're still on the computer. :) -WarthogDemon 06:38, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

What question did you have in mind? >Radiant< 10:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I suppose the best place for asking policy related questions is the village pump, which is very high traffic. At any rate, considering Wikipedia hosts its own images, I fail to see the point of linking to images on a third-party server; such images tend to be used as an end-run around policy, by indirectly including images that Wikipedia would not want for itself, or as vanity (note that we avoid links to Youtube and Myspace for much of the same reason). On the other hand, importing images from Photobucket to Wikipedia is a red flag for licensing concerns, considering that Photobucket is a public webhost, and many files on public webhosts tend to be not attributable, or downright copyvios. HTH! >Radiant< 11:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Rescue Mission -- wrong number?

Hi ArielGold,

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-118#Rettungsmission_.28STS-320.29 lists STS-320 as the rescue mission for STS-118, as it would be STS-120 with the launch date moved forward. In "en" however, it is listed as STS-322. Which one is correct? 91.89.84.198 13:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Howdy, the FAWG manifest was updated, and published, it extends through 2008. You can find the latest manifest here. I can also attest to the validity of it, as that information was previously known, but not released by NASA publicly. Once it became public, it became okay to put into articles. Specifically for this mission: September 28 (TBD) - STS-322 (Rescue STS-118) - Discovery. I'll post this on your talk page as well. Thanks for asking! ArielGold 13:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, seems someone else also picked up on the apparent discrepancy, but fixed the wrong end: 15:14, 21 August 2007 84.173.131.112 (Talk) (60,412 bytes) (STS-320, not STS-322 (cf. STS-3xx article, cf. German version)) Maybe you should change it back to 322 and add an explanation, to avoid further back-and-forth editing. 91.89.84.198 15:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep saw that when it conflicted with my update after the deorbit burn, lol. Dropped the same note on their talk page that I did on yours. Hee hee ArielGold 15:39, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: AFC request for Wisconsin Alumni Association

I'm wondering why you declined this as unverifiable. I was actually about to approve it, lol. I found the following while doing a quick search: Official site, this article in the Green Bay Gazette 3 hours ago, and archived articles from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin State Journal, Capital Times, and many others, which certainly seem to verify the association's existance. I'm just curious as to your thinking when you stated it was unverifiable. While I would question the notability, at first glance it would indeed be verifiable. Don't take this as me challenging you, because please know, I'm not, I'm just curious what I missed. Thanks, ArielGold 13:30, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

It's not that it was unverifiable, it's that the only reference they gave was the organization's own website. If you wanted to do the extra research, that's cool. Cheers! Precious Roy 13:40, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Ahhhhh I get it! I'm just getting into the AFC thing, so just was curious! Thanks tons! ArielGold 13:43, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
It's not that you can't do extra research and add some references to show notability. I've actually done that before—I've even done it for requests that someone else had declined. If you want to, more power to you. Precious Roy 14:29, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: whitespace in headers - my edits to STS-118

Thanks for the message. The reason I did this [removed header whitespace] was because I was making a few other minor edits, and for some reason I thought the manual of style preferred to have no spaces between the == - I once saw another editor who had made a minor edit solely to remove the extra space from headers and cited the Manual of Style for the reason for doing so in the edit summary. Since, I have always thought it was best practice to avoid extra space in headers, (even though I know it makes no difference). I'm gonna stop removing whitespace from now on. What a great mission STS-118 has been! (I've been part of WikiProject Space Exploration for a while now, making most edits on the topic to Apollo program. I hope to contribute to Shuttle-related topics, and I'm looking forward to watching the landing on NASA TV at 12:32 EDT/17:32 BST). Have a great day, and I'm sure we'll run into each other again on other Space exploration contributions. --J. Atkins (talk | contribs) 14:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Glad to hear back from you! And I too, was removing the whitespaces because I thought it was right, lol. Then I noticed that when you use Wikipedia to post a header, it does put them in, and comparing them, it made no difference. I do tend to still remove them out of habit, lol. I'm so sad STS-118 is nearly over already, but I've really enjoyed the process that the article has gone through, providing up to date, accurate, neutral information. I'm pretty proud of that article, and it will be better once cleaned up following landing. I'm not as well-versed on the Apollo program, so I tend to stick with the main things I know a lot about, the shuttle program. I'm in the Space Exploration project too, so it is super nice to get to know you! Keep in touch, or feel free to just randomly bug me if you'd like to. ArielGold 15:00, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Btw, if you have Google Desktop sidebar you can get a NASA TV gadget (it's freeware) so you can have it showing all the time, and you can drag it out of the sidebar for a bigger picture. --J. Atkins (talk | contribs) 15:06, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Landing

Umm actually you wrote :25 (the start time) so I changed it to :28 end time, it's not that important anyway but i'm watching on the edge of my seat like you i guess so i thought i' d fix it :). Let's hope landing goes A-OK for the guys :). Cheers! - Badseed 16:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hehe, well their line of thought is "if there isn't any news, make some" and so the whole thing turned into a media drama. I don't trust NASA management all the way, but I hoped they would be much more careful now and, unless there was a conspiracy of engineers, the thumbs up for reentry this time had to be real. So happy ending, and if it's comforting you, there's also the "Dawn" launch in mid-September. Patience till STS-120! Cheers! - Badseed 16:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I would say I fully trust NASA's managers now, but perhaps not before Columbia. Now however, if you go over the massive amounts of documents there are, truly there are procedures for nearly every situation. Have you read through the emergency medical checklist? LOL that's a good one. I just wish the media would back off, lol. ArielGold 16:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words, Daoken. I actually just recently changed my user page, you can see the old version here. The old version was a derivative of one a friend of mine had, which was designed by another friend of mine, Phaedriel. She does userpage design for many people, when she has the time. This most recent design I put together a couple nights ago, after sumbling upon this template. I modified it, changed the colors, added a couple way cool images, and voila! (Ha! I know I make that sound easy, trust me, it took me many hours to figure out how to make it do what I wanted, .) Now, if you'd like to make some changes to your userpage, here is where I'd go to start: The Transhumanist devotes their time to helping people, by assisting in the virtual classroom, and also has a page about userpage design, and that can be found here. I hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you may come across! ArielGold 21:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

What can I say ? Ariel, you are simply GOLD! I already adopted the box you left for me at my talkpage, And all these links? Gosh! you got a wikifriend for anything I can help you at any time! Kindest regards Daoken 22:03, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

~*Giggle*~ I just remember what it was like when I joined, nobody really talked to me, for really two years. Granted, I lurked, and didn't talk to anyone either, but that was because I felt I was too new to talk to anyone, lol. So, seriously, drop me a line any time you have questions, I'm happy to try and answer, and if I can't, I probably can point you to someone or somewhere that could help. Lemme know if you want me to put the boxes into a table or anything for ya, Ciao! ArielGold 22:07, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

You have me speechless! You even know my preferred color (aqua) ! Yyeessss! I got cool signature ! THANX bunches and more. I need to get oofline now but when I'm back tomorrow maybe if you have a bit of free time you can help me to put those boxes nicer in my page? The cool homesick first before the text and the three of projects after the text with the council one first? and give me some other ideas? I hope I am not abusing now, just that you have such a nice touch ! Daoken 23:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Award for humour

~*Hee hee hee*~ Hope it made you smile! Thanks for the award! ArielGold 01:57, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

No worries. :) -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 01:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Lol I just thought it was cute, your edit to RFCN crossed with mine, so I saw your fence problem, and it triggered my mischievous side! Mwuahahaha ArielGold 02:01, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I love your vandal warnings!

I like the vandal warnings you have, with the cute images and everything. They just seem that much more friendly. Are these a template, or do you do it by hand ? spazure (contribs) 08:44, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I made them, they're a template, you can see most of them User:ArielGold/Boxes2 here. And I did design them with the goal of them being more friendly, so I'm glad to see others appreciate them too! (They all have parameters to fill in, so if the text seems odd, it is because just throwing them up without the parameters makes them seem oddly worded.) ArielGold 08:53, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

On the subject of vandalism

Can you tell me or indicate me where to read about if there is any way in Wikipedia to backup the project or articles in case the get vandalized (for reinstatement) ?Daoken 21:04, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

What you know ? Double help ! So double thanks !! Daoken 21:24, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry! No Apologies Needed ~*Grin*~

Hey. As you may have seen I answered Daoken's question on his talk page. I did not do this to try to annoy you, or anyone, just to help him and so you woudn't have to spend your time answering the question (you seem to answer a lot ;) ) I hoped you would see before you started typing, but I think you dident. Sorry  Tiddly Tom  21:15, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

It is not a problem at all! I appreciate your additional input and wording! ArielGold 21:18, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much for not biting my head of, as I am sure you are aware, other users probably would :P I must say I haven't found another editor as of yet that is as kind/helpful as you :) Keep up the great work :)  Tiddly Tom  21:41, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Wow, thank you so much for such kind words, seriously. Each day, I just hope that I can make a tiny bit of difference to someone, and if I've done that, then I would consider the day a good one. And if I can do it while making someone else smile, all the better. ArielGold 21:57, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

You Know . . .

I'm no admin myself admittedly, however I've thinking you could be a good candidate for an RfA. Ever considered it? :) -WarthogDemon 06:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Cough...uhm, I second. Jmlk17 06:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Heh, it has been mentioned to me before, and while I've been around for 2+ years, I didn't do any edits for nearly 2 years, because I wanted to "lurk" and learn about policies and guidelines before jumping into it (and other RL stuff, too). So if one were to look at my count, I'd really only have 2 months of "experience", so eh, no big deal. I'm fortunate to have made some very good friends who are administrators, and normally if I really need something, can find someone to ask. I do, however, appreciate your vote of confidence! ArielGold 07:01, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

G'day Ariel

I just wanted to ask you if you have time to help WP:TORIG with the historical sources of an article about Space race ? You find it in the list of open tasks. If you have the time, could be great, we have no one on that area. Also we have a new category for editors who have no time to be full members but can help now and then, see Supporters. Thanks and have a charlie good day Daoken 17:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

The project changed to WP:TIMETRACE. Daoken 09:05, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Saw you tinkering with space articles while I was quietly correcting a misplaced comma. You know you really should RfA if you haven't already. Make sure to let me know if you do! Hope you are well SGGH speak! 18:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Well when you feel ready let one of us know, and he or she will let the others know. Otherwise you get accused of canvassing, which I find daft. If you don't let people who know you know that you have an RfA then people who know how you work won't be lending their opinions! You check all the RfAs? Did you see mine?! :P And I'm very well thankyou, Terminator 2 is on, I havdn't seen either until a couple of days ago. SGGH speak! 21:52, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Omg my head is spinning reading that "you know they know you knew that I know that she knew that you know, you know?" LOL~ . But trust me, I've seen enough people get accused of canvassing that I would definitely not want to do that. In fact I'd hesitate to even let anyone know I was up for it, much less ask a whole ton of people. Of course, I don't know a whole ton of people, so that's not a real big problem! lol. I actually think I did read your RfA a while back, before we'd really talked much. I should go read it again! lol. Terminator 2 is awesome, that's my favorite of the trilogy. What channel? I'll turn it on, lol. ArielGold 22:11, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

It is sky something or other, it has finished now any. 130? 131? Yeah I'm around for a bit what do you need input on? SGGH speak! 23:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I think you handled it fine. You have another user or two voicing concerns or thoughts on your actions, and you responded appropriately, and other users agreed with you on both counts. I especially agree with your points in the last paragraph of the NASA POV section, the comment about up-to-date information-vs-clarity and relevance. You responded well and commented on the content rather than the user, which is not what many people do when you are negative about their work. You handled everything fine, though to be honest as wikipedia-social-issues go this isn't going to be among the most difficult you'll come across :P
I thought you were going to nick my msn and give me a long complicated thing for the next half hour! What you gave me was relatively simple: you did fine, nothing that strikes me as anything other than acceptable discussion. SGGH speak! 23:28, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I applaud your efforts, but I also think you may possibly be heading towards working too hard to avoid conflict. Be wary of striving for comprimise at the expense of your own beliefs and ideas about the way things may work. No body is conflict free, and if you enjoy working on wikipedia enough and work hard enough you are going to come into conflict. Passionate debate sparks new ideas, and you can't have passionate debate if you comprimise instantly. My advice would be to strike a balance between your own ideas and avoiding conflict, let that be your compromise :) SGGH speak! 23:49, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
If you see the reasoning behind it then its fine to state so, even if you disagree. Even if you disagree and think they are talking a croc of sh*t you can still see "I understand the reasoning" just because it takes the sting out of your future comments. I do honestly worry that you may be over analysing your responses a bit, everything seems fine from here. I'm sure everyone appreciates your efforts to be 100% neutral. PS: I did email my msn address for you. SGGH speak! 00:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Well that is what smilies are for! Hence why msn is such a useful way to communicate, lol. That's why I was so intrigued originally when I saw you leaving smilies. SGGH speak! 00:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
