[edit] History of Dubrovnik Republic
"History of "Dubrovnik Republic...you keep it from being totally rewritten in bad English by an Italian and a Croatian nationalist??
Sorry, Argyriou. Maybe some users have bad knowledge of English, bad you have bad knowledge of Croatian history, as well as of it's smallest independent republic, as well as of functioning of feudal system.
You've never learned that in feudal system, higher social classes spoke some other language, to distinguish themselves from lower classes? That was the case all over Europe (this is a topic for an big article).
So, you're messing with things that you don't understand.
You haven't studied the matter properly. Kubura 13:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
And please, don't stigmate Croatian users with words like "nationalists". This is a heavy word.
Don't expect from people to be calm when someone is trying through perfidious ways to deny your country's right to existence, your country's history, and same those denyings pointed against your own people.
If you simpathize Italy and Italians, that your business, but don't do that over the back of other peoples. Kubura 13:39, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP:3RR?
Excuse me? I did no such thing:
An editor must not perform more than three reverts, in whole or in part, on a single page within a 24-hour period. Any editor who breaches the rule may be blocked from editing for up to 24 hours in the first instance, and longer for repeated or aggravated violations.
I did not commit a 3RR infringement.
- 23:17, 11 February 2007 Thewanderer (Talk | contribs) (- cat. Ragusa/Dubrovnik was not located in the Italian peninsula, nor was it ever a part of modern Italian state.)
- 23:28, 11 February 2007 Thewanderer (Talk | contribs) (rv. listen. i'm not some rule-breaking little gnat like Afrika Paprika. "Ragusa" had nothing to do with Italy or the Italian state, so the cat is incorrect. this has nothing to do with ethnicity.)
- 14:01, 12 February 2007 Thewanderer (Talk | contribs) (rv. republic of ragusa/dubrovnik is wholly located in Croatia today. it was never located on the Italian peninsula or the Italian state.)
The next edit occurred after 24 hours and was not a revert, but a compromise. The final edit was also not a 3RR violation.
- 01:42, 13 February 2007 Thewanderer (Talk | contribs) (recat. italian cat is not appropriate (how could it be renamed?), and no one has given any real reason for keeping it.)
- 03:41, 13 February 2007 Thewanderer (Talk | contribs) (recat)
I am a fairly long-standing contributor to Wikipedia with hundreds of edits. I have civilly discussed the issue with you, as I have done so with many others. I don't appreciate being called a nationalist. Thank you... and have a nice day. --Thewanderer 03:31, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Selective removing
Hi, Argyriou.
I have to draw your attention on one thing here.
Did you notice what user Giovanni Giove did?
In this change on Talk page of Dubrovnik Republic.
He was very selective in removing the sections. He removed the section he didn't want to be read. Other sections, that were (as I said myself) out of context, off-topic, weren't removed.
If he removed all off-topic sections, I wouldn't make any fuss. But, he was selective.
"Very neutral" attitude from that user. Have that in mind.
Sincerely, Kubura 10:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Revisionism and imperialism
Hi, again.
Look what Giovanni Giove did here [1].
What should I do in this case?
Report him to council of UN?
Do ten more reverts? And get a title of "vandal, extremist"? And earn a warning from Wikipedia's top governing bodies, that I might earn a permanent expulsion from wiki? And actually be expulsed?
Or Wikipedia doesn't care if some users (I won't tell names, no etiquetting policy) spread Italian imperialism and revisionism? Kubura 10:49, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- You are the one being an extremist. Changing the titles of books and websites from Ragusa to Dubrovnik, when they clearly use "Ragusa" in the title is engaging in falsification. Removing mentions of the Italian heritage of Ragusa is falsifying history. Until you are willing to accept that history does not neatly fit your Croatian nationalist fantasies, and that spreading Croat imperialism and revisionism is contrary to the mission of Wikipedia, you should step back and not edit contentious articles. Αργυριου (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Book titles were "changed"?
Listen. Book "in Italian", but with English title? If you look better, the user who put the link, put a title "Ragusa: history and coins (in Italian)", but the book title is "Storia e monetazione di Ragusa, oggi Dubrovnik (Dalmazia). Interesting, the author avoids name Croatia.
The second book, the contributor wrote a title "Book:Ragusa: the Fifth Maritime Republic (in Italian", but the book title is "Ragusa, la quinta repubblica marinara".
Similar is the case with Dubrovnikan flags. The page is in Italian, so at least the contributor could put the page title in Italian. But no, he/she suggests the Italian cityname within the page title, "Ragusean flags".
If we are going to write all in English, than respect native names.
Second, this change and comment is really problematic.
Your previous answer even more. How can you say such things? You've lost any credibility here.
Funny thing is, that someone wrote on the page "The Croatian language name was Dubrovačka Republika.[citation needed]"? Citation needed? But on that Italian page with the flags, you have Croat name also. Who's playing dumb on that page?
You were not reading the links on the books I've posted on the talk page. "Translated from the Italian on the language of Dubrovnik" (Istomaceno iz yezikka italianskoga u dubrovacki po D. Mauru Orbinu Dubrovcaninu). Have you read that? If Dubrovnik was so "Italian", why the book needed translation? (the book is from 1621), see the section: "Croathood of Dubrovnik and translations".
Dear child, you think that Republic of Dubrovnik was so Italian, that during the times of national awakenings in Europe, all their citizens stood by Croathood?
Do you find Greece as German country, because of origins of their recent royal family? Kubura 08:51, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have no interest in dealing with fanatical nationalists who are unable to communicate civilly or to recognize that other points of view, for example, historical facts, have any validity. You are not welcome to post on my talk page any more. Αργυριου (talk) 16:46, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Maritime [Rr]epublics
I wasn't sure that you had come to an agreement as to whether these should be merged into Category:Maritime republics, where Ragusa is, or whether there should be a new Category:Maritime Republics, and everything should go there. I didn't want to guess, and guess wrong, so I closed it as no consensus. Hope this makes sense, Angus McLellan (Talk) 20:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. I'll go talk to Thewanderer, and try again. It's been a bit frustrating - the Republic of Ragusa article is an ideological battleground between Croat and Italian nationalists, and every proposed change is not enough for one side and too much for the other. Αργυριου (talk) 20:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'll watch out for it at CFD! Maritime republics or Maritime Republics are better than the current name. Same for the mainspace articles; it should be renamed too. All the best! Angus McLellan (Talk) 20:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Northern Cyprus exists?
So you are Greek and admit that this satellite state EXISTS as a country? What kind of Greek are you? I'm pretty sure you don't have a damn idea on what happened there in 1974. Shame on you.. --KaragouniS 18:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm Greek, which means that I'm intelligent enough to recognize what happens in the real world. Are you? Argyriou (talk) 19:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Take a look in Solomos Solomou and Tassos Isaac articles. THIS IS what you recognize. I know my nation's history. But do YOU? --KaragouniS 20:56, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- To answer my previous question, you obviously don't. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus really does exist, out there in the real world, no matter what bloviations are emitted from the talking shops in Brussels and Turtle Bay, and no matter how criminal the people who run the place are. Your reply makes it obvious your education never included the difference between de facto and de jure. I suggest you remedy that deficiency. Argyriou (talk) 21:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

- Its funny don't you think? You don't even speak your language. And you tried to tell me about GREEK history. Isn't it ironic? Οταν μαθεις ελληνικα τοτε να μου κανεις υποδειξεις. Καλο βραδυ. --KaragouniS 11:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

You've worn out your welcome. Go away, and don't ever post on my talk page again. Any further posting here by you will be reported as vandalism. Argyriou (talk) 18:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

- KaragouniS has been blocked for 12 hours for harassment on this talk page. Your response here is obviously incivil, but I'm inclined to view it as a frustrated response on your part to his incessant baiting and leave things there. I should also mention that I've submitted the block to WP:AN/I for review by the community. MastCell Talk 16:52, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

You're not worth the effort. Argyriou (talk) 15:29, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zorba calling
Yes. Zorba is calling apo Ameriki and he sees all red...Is my NyLon really, really that crap? I really won't take offence since behind these lines is yet another peevish Zorbas and given my (non-Greek) Vlach background the Greek's nagging does not come as a surprise...Dhen mpirazi horiane...Zito Eladha (omorma patridha mas) sorry..patrida sas...Quite smouldering lately..Sorry...no Schadefreude intended...P.S. NyLon will survive...It's not the neo-Greeks who set the rules of the game in town my friend...Apostolos Margaritis 20:48, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
