Land of Confusion

Hi AreJay, I was wondering if you could add your opinion on the Land of Confusion talk page; someone has split off the Disturbed section, and I opened a discussion on whether to re-merge it back to the main article. If you could also provide any assistance towards improving the article (merge or not), I'd appreciate it, as I think it's worthy of at least Good status. Hope to hear from you soon. Dear Sir, I am ok with ur stand. Adding of 'opinion' is fine as it doesnt shows Belgaon strugge and Maharashtra in bad light. Frankly speaking,i thot u r one of those kannadi chauvinists who were deliberately converting that article to pro-Karnataka.Just to let u know,Belgaon controversy's very essence is that Maharashtra thinks that there is majority of Marathi speakers there. Thanks. mahawiki 13:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

It was surely a compliment.I dont insult anyone unless others do the same to me.Kannadi is a word extensively used to term speakers of Kannada atleast by Marathi and Hindi speaker. In fact 'Kannad people' this term is used by English speakers.Kannadiga is supposed to be a Kannad word(do we tell americans to call us Bhartiya). In fact many Kannadis refer Maharashtrians as 'Marathis', 'Maratis' etc.Since ur language name is kannada, its obvious to use an 'eekar'by us just as in Gujarati, punjabi, bangali marathi(s),tamil(s) etc. This summary is to confirm u that I didnt mean any offence to Kannadis.(I was happy though,as that Sarvagnya didnt appreciate it) There's no reason to bother anyone because no one's bothering me now.So going by ur word,I would term Kannadis as Kannadiga here after. Thanks. mahawiki 13:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Your comment on the Notice Board

Thanks for opining on the issue. But your post there is a little ambiguous in that, it deals with 'translations' of the said articles, but is posted under "Sanskrit and Devanagari". Please take another look at your post and if possible move it to a more appropriate heading among

this, this or this I mean, your post is already under the third one, but i guess it was meant to be under the second one. Also you address two issues in your post 1) native translations 2)script used in original. I didnt fully understand your point about (2). Please clarify if its not too much trouble. Also please say something about this(if you have anything to say ie.) Sarvagnya 23:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Infoboxes

Wow! Thanks a million! Actually I was gonna be pinging u myself(about the vector maps). btw, great work on the bagalkot page. I've been trying to create vector maps myself. I havent yet put in a whole lot of effort into it and as of now, i dont even have much of a clue how i'd go about doing it. i tried to play around in inkscape a bit, but couldnt figure out anything. so can you help me with a little 'how-to' about those vector maps? also, I wanted to ask you, on the chennai page and couple of other pages, you guys've quoted the 2006(or is it 2k5) census figs. where did u get it? coz all i can find is the 2k1 figures for most other places. also take a quick look at Portal:Karnataka i just created. Any help to improve it'll be greatly appreciated. Sarvagnya 01:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Genesis lineup

I'm clearly missing something. Where on the talk page is there anything pertaining to Ray Wilson, and his removal (or not) from the cenventional list of current members? I can see discussion on the possible but unconfirmed re-union iwth Collins. I can see a section on the infobox, but that doesn't have anything relevent. In fact I can't see any mention of Wilson's name on the talk page at all. As far as I can see this continual removal of Wilson from the list is misguided, since Calling All Stations was the last album, and Wilson was an active member at that time. When you commented "please see talk" what was I supposed to be seeing? Forgive me, but unless I see a credible argument for his removal from the list, I feel obliged to correctly re-instate it for accuracy of the article. Cain Mosni 14:43, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Scratch that. It wasn't there when I looked earlier. Either you were still editing it, or something flaked. Anyhow - answered in situ. Cain Mosni 14:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Portal help

Hello AreJay. I created Portal:Gujarat yesterday. Can you take a quick look at it and suggest any changes. Also, I created the selected articles page modelled on Portal:India/Selected articles. Can you tell me how to make the contents not appear like they currently are (taking up only half the screen and not the complete width of the screen like the Portal:India version)? Thanks. - Aksi_great (talk) 14:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Looks better now. I have already begun my search for good Gujarat-related articles to fill the page. Most of the code should work as I spent hours copying pages from Portal:India yesterday. Only the colour scheme looks dull. - Aksi_great (talk) 15:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Kaveri Dispute article

Hi, After a long time, I have completed the Kaveri_River_Water_Dispute article in some shape and form. Most importantly, I've added some refs. Can you please take a look at the article and let me know if there are any glaring POV or anything that has the potential to be seen as POV. If you find anything, please let me know and I will add refs. Also the refs I've already added need some cleanup. Can you help me with this. I only know to add refs the 'plain vanilla' way. Also, while I've added refs for most of the controversial or potentially controversial portions, some parts of the article is still unreferenced. I will add it in due course. For all the above reasons, I've still left the underconstruction tag on. Once I get feedback from you, I'll remove it. I'll also make this request to few other editors, so that we minimise any risk of edit warring on that article. Thanks. Sarvagnya 23:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi AreJay, The latest revert on Bangalore article looks incorrect, as it again points to that user's version having that external link. :) Basically he had made two edits, and the revert using popups has just reverted his latest edit. Did you want to remove the link added by him? Then you will need to remove it again (either through reverting to previous version or manually deleting it). Hi AreJay, Thanks for reorgnising Etymology section. Can you please provide the citation for this statement?

"It states that the place was part of the Ganga kingdom and was known as Benga-val-oru, the "City of Guards" in old Kannada."

It would help. Thank you! - KNM Talk 02:31, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks much for the citation. I had always wondered what is "Benga-val-oru" , as it doesn't translate to "City of Guards". Atleast I am not familiar with the words, "Benga", "val" and "oru". :)
Just corrected the spelling, as per the citation. Please take a look.
The citation you have provided indeed is a great article from Hindu, detailing so many things about history of Bangalore. Thanks again. - KNM Talk 03:10, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

The pics were deleted from Commons because they lacked a reliable source indicating that they were, in fact, in the public domain. The fact that some website states that random images people send there are in the public domain does not make it so.--Eloquence* 03:11, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Belated welcome to WP:India

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! — Lost(talk) 21:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I have noticed your good work for a long time but never had the chance to say hi to you. Great to have you on the project. Cheers — Lost(talk) 21:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Genesis Live in Buffalo 1983.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:Genesis Live in Buffalo 1983.jpeg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Svencb 00:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

The translation department of the India WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to India for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

Genesis FAC

Hey AreJay, the FAC is close to a keep at this stage; the article needs a light copyedit (which I can do), but some reviewers have raise an issue with the number of fair use ogg file used on the page. I agree on this point, the number is excessive, esp. as the text does not specifically discuss many of them. If you could cut the number down to a manageable level, that would be great; and files removed could be added to a specific song or album article. Ceoil 20:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Great. If you have time to select the files you want to remain, I can shorten where necessary. Ceoil 09:27, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Its heartbreaking in a way, but thanks. If the files are not already on the album or song pages, we can move them there. Its a very good article, I'm hoping this will be a keep. Ceoil 10:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Just a quick note to say I thought the section heading were more helpful before you switched to time periods. Thanks for you work on the oggs, bty. I'm struggling to get to the ce, but it will happen! Thanks for the patience. Ceoil 22:06, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

DIFX

I'll add comment here since the IP addressing is dynamic in the UAE.

You're obviously doing a great deal of commendable and time-consuming work on the Dubai page (I added a comment to that effect on the talk show there) so keep up the good work and don't mind me. Your information about DIFX, whilst no doubt correct and factual, is about as useful, and trivial, as a route description of an obscure bus route. DIFX is a long way from the LSE or NYSE. On almost any given trading day, nothing (I mean that literally) is traded on DIFX. Whereas DFM will trade millions of shares. Market websites list the exact figures every day so that seems to be the most relevant source to use. They're already listed on the wikipedia pages for each of the UAE stock markets. As is, the Dubai page gives a sense of importance to the DIFX that, IMHO, is overinflated.
