Area code 959

Area code 959 is a telephone area code proposed to serve part of the state of Connecticut in 1999. It would have covered Bristol, Hartford, Norwich and the rest of northern and eastern Connecticut. It would have overlaid with Area code 860. The 959 overlay proposal has not been withdrawn, only postponed. A date for implementing the new overlay area code has yet to be determined.
