Ardisia (Coralberry or Marlberry) is a genus of flowering plants in the family Myrsinaceae (Myrsine family), native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. The genus includes about 250 species of small trees, shrubs and subshrubs growing up to 8 m tall.[1][2][3]
One species, Ardisia japonica (Chinese: 紫金牛; pinyin: zǐjīn niú) is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese medicine.
