[edit] Club career
[edit] Manisaspor loan
After performing well for the reserve team, Arda was called up to Galatasaray's main team in the beginning of the 2004-2005 season and performed well. In mid season he was loaned to Vestel Manisaspor in order to gain first team experience. Former Turkey national football team coach Ersun Yanal gave him a starting position in the team and Arda used this time wisely , playing 15 times and scoring twice.
Arda is noted for his consistent performances on the left wing but he is also capable of playing on the right side, and also as an attacking midfielder.
[edit] Galatasaray return
Arda Turan returned to Galatasaray at the start of the 2006/07 season and gave an impressive performance in the 3rd round Champions League qualifying round game against Mladá Boleslav, by scoring two goals and setting up two more in the process. Following the game, he was widely praised by footballing experts all around Europe, who began to compare him to the likes of Gheorghe Hagi, a Galatasaray and Romanian legend. Arda Turan is known for his precise passes, assists and his ability to get past defenders.
UEFA.com describes him as a combative young midfielder with high levels of vision and technique and exceptional passing ability.
Arda scored his first hat-trick as a Galatasaray player against Sivasspor on May 4, 2008.
[edit] International career
Arda currently plays for the Turkish national football team. He scored his first international goal on May 25, 2008 in a friendly against Uruguay, having been called into the Turkey squad for Euro 2008.
[edit] Euro 2008
On June 11, Arda scored his second international goal against Switzerland in Turkey's second Group A match of Euro 2008. The goal, a deflected shot in the 92nd minute, made the score 2-1 to Turkey, reignited Turkey's chances of making the quarter-finals and effectively knocked Switzerland out of their own tournament. The Turks had previously been 1-0 down following a comical Hakan Yakin goal in the first half which came about as a result of the deteriorating weather conditions and severely waterlogged pitch. [1]
