Universities in Archenbridge range from the most prestigious University of Dreybern to the fourth-tier Kempa University. Archenbridge's 21 universities enrol a total of 336 980 full-time students.

In addition to the eighteen universities, there are also fourteen small university colleges and thirteen polytechnics in Archenbridge.

The University of Ansdorf comprises four colleges:

  • OC: Old Carlington College, 9 400 students (Carlington).
  • NC: New Carlington College, 9 200 students (Carlington).
  • PA: Prince Abelard College, 11 000 students (Lindhoven, so. of Carlington).
  • KT: Kettsmoor College, 8 500 students (Kettsmoor, w. of Carlington).

Total Enrolment = 38 100 students; 25 080 undergraduates, 13 020 postgraduates.

Imperial Carlington College is itself divided into Old and New Carlington Colleges, but this division is only for pastoral purposes.

There are nine faculties at the University of Ansdorf:

  • Medicine (PA) - Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychology, specialised medical research centres.
  • Humanities (OC, NC, KT) - Classics, English Language and Literature, History, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Cultural and Area Studies, Archaeology.

[edit] Faculty of Medicine

The Ansdorf Faculty of Medicine is Skielanda's largest medical school with an enrolment of around 4250 undergraduates and 1100 postgraduates. The annual undergraduate intake is among the highest in Europe: 430 MBChB candidates (320 first year, 110 GEP/advanced standing), 120 BDS candidates, 350 nursing students, 60 Medical Sciences students, and 80 pharmacy students. One out of every thirteen MBChB applicants in Skielanda (total 5600) is admitted to Ansdorf Med.

Ansdorf Med has consistently ranked within the top five nationwide, placing third at the last rating in 2005. High student numbers are matched by a teaching staff of 1650.

Medical Sciences students are drawn from promising first-year science students for second year entry into the course. Medical Sciences graduates with first class honours are guaranteed entry into the MBChB course with advanced standing.

Medicine at Prince Abelard's

Following the unification of Ansdorf University, most of Ansdorf Med's teaching and laboratory facilities were also unified at Prince Abelard College. The faculty's principal buildings are:

  • Faculty of Medicine Kottimer Building - Three lecture theatres, seminar rooms, the Anatomy unit, clinical and dental training centres, academic staff offices. 6 storeys (including basement), completed 1997.
  • Medical Library Building - The medical library (2 floors), a lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, study rooms, cafeteria, students' common rooms. Red-brick complex, 4 storeys, completed c. 1880.
  • Anatomy Building - Two lecture theatres, seminar and tutorial rooms, biomedical teaching laboratories, academic staff offices. The Medical Sciences programme is based here, as are some teaching units of the Faculty of Life Science. The Anatomy unit has moved to the Kottimer Building. 4 storeys, completed c. 1890, adjacent to Medical Library Building.
  • Biomedical Sciences Building - Laboratories, specialised medical units, research centres, research staff offices. Sections of the Faculty of Life Sciences are located here (Immunology and Infection; Medical Biochemistry). 8 storeys, completed 2002.
  • School of Nursing.

Non-clinical courses for both medical and life science students are usually held at the Medical Library Building or the Anatomy Building. Clinical courses are based at the Kottimer Building and research at the Biomedical Sciences Building.

The faculty also has offices and teaching facilities in all UAHD hospitals.

Teaching Hospitals

Ansdorf Med's main teaching hospitals are:

  • Prince Abelard Hospital - 902 beds. Adjacent to Prince Abelard College.
  • Imperial Bernley Infirmary - 1187 beds. Principal A&E in Central Ansdorf.
  • Averborough Hospital - 620 beds.
  • Marberfield Hospital - 592 beds.

Together, these four acute hospitals comprise the University of Ansdorf Hospitals Division (UAHD) of CHA Ansdorf. All have A&E facilities. The university maintains direct control over teaching facilities in UAHD hospitals.

Ansdorf Med also maintains links with 2 non-acute CHA hospitals, 2 private hospitals and 7 specialist clinics.

The university realises that housing costs in Ansdorf are prohibitively high, and therefore strives to provide as many accommodation units as possible. All students who normally live outside a 30-km radius are eligible to apply for university accommodation. Halls accommodation is usually set aside for the lower years.

  • Carlington - 2615 of which 965 non-ensuite in halls, 1650 in flats.
  • Kettsmoor - 6840 of which 1240 ensuite in halls, 2558 non-ensuite in halls, 3042 in flats.
  • Lindhoven - 3888 of which 828 ensuite in halls, 860 non-ensuite in halls, 2200 in flats.
  • Marberfield - 5920, all in flats.

Total 19263, of which 2068 ensuite in halls, 4383 non-ensuite in halls, and 12812 in flats. Three university canteens near halls in Carlington, Kettsmoor and Lindhoven are open to all students who have purchased a meal plan.
