Hi I really like this page, but im surprised there are no references, WIkipedia is good for getting ideas and this is what this page does.
There seems to be a very academic-centred view of archaeological survey in this article as it stands. It needs an extensive re-write to incorporate the rather different approach taken under commercial, developer-funded, conditions. The techniques may be broadly the same but time and budgetary factors mean that there is not the same emphasis on drawing up research aims or on performing any high level of analysis. I would also question the way the distinction is drawn between intensive and extensive survey. Certainly in the UK it is not unheard of for high resolution geophysical surveys to cover a number of square kilometers, and there is at least one research project, at East Heslerton where something of the order of 10km2 has been surveyed in this way. 81.153.228.212 21:45, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
