[edit] Worried about sources
I'm somewhat worried about the reliability of the sources used to back things like real name and death by drug overdose. I understand there was a documentary film, Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered - does that say anything to back these statements? --AnonEMouse (squeak) 20:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Me too. I originally put updating this article aside because I couldn't find any evidence that was actually convincing for her real name being Michelle Carpenter or that she died of a drug overdose. I decided then to do a Wikipedia no-no and conduct some original research just for my own curiosity. Of the many sources I checked, the most obvious was the ssdi. I searched Michelle Carpenter, M Carpenter, Michelle Everett and M Everett, none of which provided me any reasonable results that died in 1990. Which means that either:
- Her real name was not Michelle Carpenter
- She remarried after Eric Edwards and thus was no longer Michelle Carpenter or Michelle Everett at the time of her death
- She is not deceased
- Any combination of the above three
I also thought it might be possible that she was never issued a SSN, which would mean that she might not turn up in the ssdi no matter what. We know very little about her early life and the circumstances of her birth - it's possible that she was never issued these documents (and the pornographic industry might not have bothered to get her one either).

That's about the closet I can find, but I can't do much with it or else it would be original research. We know she couldn't have been born any later than early 1960 (or else her first works would be illegal). It's possible that she died in 1991, no one noticed until years later and whoever found out first misquoted the date. Since there's no attribution for the death year, however, it can't be tracked.
Sadly, I haven't seen Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered yet. Maybe someone who has can clarify? There's also a biography of Eric Edwards called "Dorothy From Kansas Meets the Wizard of X," where he supposedly discusses his relationship with Lake, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of that either. Until then, I suppose I could rephrase the article to make her death date and real name seem more uncertain, but I'm not sure how I would do that... if I just flat out say I couldn't find anything that's original research. If I express doubt, I need a source to back my doubt up. It's a bit frustrating. Canadian Paul 21:07, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
