Monthly and annual temperature and precipitation climatologies at eight Arctic and sub-Arctic stations. The red and blue vertical bars extend from the daily-average low to the daily-average high for each month; the red line shows the maximum temperature recorded each month, and the blue line shows the minimum temperature recorded each month; the gray bars show the monthly-average precipitation (liquid equivalent, millimeters); the text gives the annual-average temperature and precipitation. The figure was made in the mid 1970s, so including data since then might change it some, but it gives a good idea of the climate in these regions. The map shows the location of the seven land stations and the tracks of the two Soviet drifting stations from which data were combined to make the lower-left plot.
