From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Holders of the title of Archduke of Austria. The first man to hold this rank was Rudolf IV, Duke of Austria (1339-1365), who conferred it on himself. Most of his successors as the head of the Austrian branch of the Habsburg family were emperors, so the rank of Archduke is primarily associated with junior male members of the House of Habsburg and its successor the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.
