Archibald Cameron Macdonell

Sir Archibald Cameron Macdonell, K.C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., (6 October 1864 – 23 December 1941) was a Canadian police officer and soldier.
Born in Windsor, Canada West, Macdonell graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1886 but decided to stay in the Canadian militia and the North-West Mounted Police. He fought in the Boer War with the 2nd Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles and was a commander of the 5th Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles. In 1907, he was second in command of the Canadian Mounted Rifles, which became Lord Strathcona's Horse in 1909. He would later command Lord Strathcona's Horse during World War I. After being promoted to Brigadier-General, he would command the 7th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, and in June 1917 the 1st Canadian Division. In 1919, he was appointed Commandant of the Royal Military College. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1925.
He died in 1941 and was buried in Catarqui Cemetery in Kingston, Ontario.
