Archbishop of Edmonton and Western Canada
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Western Diocese is a diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, which itself is under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Currently there is no bishop for Edmonton and the diocese, but when there is a bishop he is labeled as the (Arch)Bishop of Edmonton, and the Western Diocese. The last serving bishop for the diocese was His Eminence, Metropolitan John (Stinka), who went on to become the UOCC's Metropolitan, and Archbishop of Winnipeg. His Eminence served in the capacity as "Bishop of Edmonton" for 20 years (1985-2005).
The Western Diocese consists of the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, and has about 60 churches (most of them country churches), and 2 cathedral churches (St. John's Cathedral, Edmonton, and Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (Vancouver)).
