Archaeovenator hamiltonensis was a pelycosaur belonging to the varanopseid family. It is the oldest known varanopseid. Phylogenetic examination indicates that it is the sister taxon to all other known varanopseids[1]. It was preserved in the Hamilton Quarry, Kansas.
