Arcatao

Arcatao is a Village in the Department of Chalatenango, Republic of El Salvador. Located in a small valley between Honduran mountains: La CaƱada and Caracol. Limits at north and east with the Republic of Honduras.

Arcatao: Pictoric Village, located at the border of the Republic of Honduras. Close to Rivers: Sumpul, Lempa, Zazalapa and Guayampoque. Its principal source of income comes from the agricultural sector. With its templated climate most of the year and the hard rainfall during the winter season, permits the soil to be rich in nutrients. Given it the opportunity to easily grow: white corn, variety of colored beans, rice, sugar cane, tomatoes, watermelon, squash, chayotes, cucumbers, etc. also: fruit trees like: mangoes, cashews, jocotes, bananas, coconuts and paternas just to mention others. Other industries are: Elaboration of iron works and manual works as: petates and ceramic cooking items. Transportation: Autobuses travel to Chalatenango and San Salvador daily. Roads:Two main access roads. One north-west bound, ends in Chalatenango, linking with other villages like: Nueva Trinidad, San Jose Las Flores and Los Ranchos. Semi paved. The second one goes south-east, connecting with the City of Nombre de Jesus (The Name of Jesus).One more goes north, linking with City of Guarita in Honduras and other goes east, which connects to La Virtud Honduras as well.

It is really a nature's paradise.

Population: 2990 inhabitants on 2007. Extention: 66.8 square kilometers. Education: Kinder., Public School from 1 to 12 grade. Computer training is also imparted at the Preparatory School. A public library is available too.
