The term "reid lichties", comes from the fact that the light at the entrance of the harbour was red when it was safe to enter the harbour and green when the harbour was closed. This was only changed when the uniform buoyage system was changed sometime in the seventies. I am an ex-fishing skipper of the town as were my ancestors for four generations. -- Anon

Thanks. I've never been able to find anyone to tell me the true reason before, despite living in the town for twenty years. Cheers -- Derek Ross | Talk 22:45, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I need to place a web citation and I'm not sure exactly how to do it should I just insert a refernece and then a link to the news article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Judit25 (talkcontribs) 11:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
