[edit] Battle of Central Plains

Nice work on the Battle of Central Plains article. If you can cite your sources, we will be able to feature the article under the "Did you know" section on the main page. --Jiang 02:14, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Ditto -- Nice work on the Battle of Central Plains article. However, wouldn't "Central Plains War" be a better English translation? See Talk:Battle of Central Plains for reasons. Also, I recently created stubs for Zhili-Anhui War, First and Second Zhili-Fengtian Wars, and the Anhui, Zhili, and Fengtian cliques if you have info you can add. -AjaxSmack 17:47, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Glad to see those articles created, but I thing we need something like warlord clique (perhaps a subarticle of clique, which seems too concentrated on Mean Girls concepts) to unify the articles under that subject as a topical overview, which then would fall under history of the Republic of China (but not warlord era, since they overlapped). The Original Barnstar
Good work on improving Chinese history stubs vastly. You'll be a great editor. Keep it up! Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 02:13, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm awarding you this barnstar for your excellent work. Do continue...I noticed your editing pace picked up recently, so all the better. I'm also curious and amazed about your quadralingualism + dialect use ... the Singapore government's ideal Singaporean is bilingual (but doesn't use dialects, thanks to the democidal Speak Mandarin Campaign) but even so I'm struggling in my non-English subjects. As a side note Edit summaries will also help the editing process! Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 02:13, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sun Tienying translation

Here is what I think its saying:

In 1933, with Feng Yuxiang in Chahar province he advocated opposition to Japan and Chiang Kai-shek's Central government. The national government feared Sun Tienying' cooperation, but Sun Diangying was not willing to be involved in the conflict, hoping to get control of the northwest of China, therefore the government sent its army to open up wasteland in Qinghai, thus stationing troops that also supported the northwestern Ma Chiachun to give them the strength to cope with Sun Tienying.

In 1934, in January, the 60,000 man army of Sun Tienying, wanted from Suiyuan to enter the western province of Ningxia. The three Ma Chusun, Ma Buqing in Ningxia, president Ma Hungkuei, his younger brother Ma Hungpin was saved by the forces of the National army in Qinghai. Both sides battled for three months, Sun Tienying was defeated, his army was in retreat to Suiyuan when it unexpectedly was attacked by the Shanxi-Suiyuan area armed forces and forced to disarm. Sun Tienying went into seclusion in Taiyuan, Shanxi. (both paragraphs awaiting edit) Asiaticus 19:17, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signature image

Hello! I notice you sign with an image. Images are not really liked as a signature, as the guideline reads. I would suggest you to change it to not include an image, as it will likely get some comments to your talk page. There are enough editors to make it clear image in signatures are not really welcomed. Thanks for understanding, I will work in your editor review later. -- ReyBrujo 01:58, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Red Turban Rebellion

I've just noticed a reasonable-looking objection to your DYK nomination for this article, so I thought I might run this by you and see what you think: One of the problems cited in the objection is a lack of referencing and the other one is the style in which it's written. I'm more than willing to copyedit it if you can find some more sources for the article (I'd have a go myself, but should in fact be doing research for assignments), which should cut down on the amount of work required to get what seems to be a pretty interesting event on the main page. I don't know how to Afd but if you'd Afd for me with the reason of "Dead software, website, and company" I'll appreciate it. Mapletip 17:53, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I think it would have been more productive to explain to mapletip how the article deletion process works, rather than do the steps your self. As you said, it is unlikely that there will be a consensus to delete since this article doesn't violate any of the WP guidelines. The AfD process tends to burn a bunch of time for many people. I had typed in a message to mapletip's user page when I found that you had already modified the page. [edit] Your comment at Tango's RFA

Hi AQu01rius. In your reply to Mike1 at Tango's RFA, you said that you weren't sure whether his comment was a support or not. In fact, even if he leaves no comments, there are several ways to find out. First, you can check which column he left his !vote in. 99% of the time, non-indented comments in the support column are in favor of the candidate becoming a sysop. Secondly, you can check the history and see what they used for an edit summary. In this case, Mike's edit summary specifically said "support". And last of all, you can check whether he updated the tally at the top of the page; in fact, he did, adding a number in the first space of the tally (in fact, he added two, because the first person forgot.) You can safely assume that Mike meant to support Tango. Picaroon9288 02:15, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Vancouver

Thank for you reformating the WikiProject page. It's a task I was just starting, and finding that I did not have the time for. It looks much better. I'll be doing some more organizational work on dividing the task list into subpages and categories. Also the main page will have more content added to it:

  • Five Point Plan
  • Major Pending Tasks for each category:
    • People
    • Arts and Culture
    • Buildings and Structures
    • etc. etc.

While its good to have the tasks on a subpage, it would be ideal to have the main page detail each subpage so users can read and have a sense what is going on with each without having to go into each subpage. Much of how the article Vancouver is set up and then having detailed subpages such as the History of Vancouver. I also have several other sections I want to add that our WikiProject is missing. Eventually I would like to see the Colaboration of the Month phased out as it has been proven to be in-effective, nor stable enough to get articles done in a month's time. Hopefully our Five Point Plan will be its replacement. Other additions such as a Show Case will be finer details. This project was based off of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ottawa but as our project has evolved to become more elaborate, we should be moving closer in the direction of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_London. I hope this helps give you an idea for where I would like to see the project go. Perhaps this will not take too long to implement. Mkdwtalk 09:00, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello! Ideogram has requested that I protect the pages in question, however it seems to me that the better solution would be to invite you to the discussion page in question and ask you to both have a chat about the changes before making any, since there's tension around these changes and it seems a mite disruptive to go through the hassle of protecting a dozen pages just because two editors can't come to some agreement or compromise. [edit] IRC chat for WikiProject Taiwan

Hey, why don't we set up an IRC channel for the WikiProject? It'd be great way to collaborate in real time. It's also a better way to discuss disputed articles and find out a solution on how we can fix the problem. 99% of the time, arguments are just misunderstandings that end up wasting all of our time in the form of edit warring. If we can discuss the issues in real time, the quicker it is that we can all agree on constructive editing. Heck! We could even delegate sections of articles to each individual or team to research and write. — Nrtm81 16:44, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Takeonvoip.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.

Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

It looks pretty good, my only complaint is that the to columns get rather unbalanced when you go to lower screen resolutions, You can try to use the Sizing examples and see for yourself. [edit] Striking out of a comment at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Grubber

Hi there AQu01rius. You struck out another user's comment at this RFA, citing Wikipedia:No personal attacks as your rationale for doing so. That user is quite possibly a sockpuppet, and the comment had no rationale, but there was no need to strike it out. Striking out other user's comments is pretty uncivil when you get down to it, and NPA says that: removal should be limited, except in unusual circumstances. Given how few contributions that user had, and how his vote lacked any real rationale, there wasn't any need to fear that a bureaucrat was going to count it. [edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lists of surnames

It is my sense that batch AfD nominations should only be done when all articles nominated are substantially similar, so I think it was an error to include List of common Chinese surnames which is not in the same style as the rest. In that case, it should only have been listed individually, if at all. I've stricken it from the nomination, restricting the nomination to the remaining similar articles. Hopefully you can clarify your comment now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks. Dmcdevit·t 09:18, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey there (:O) ... we have an ongoing debate over here on the status of an article. [edit] Tibet Project

HI I was just surveying the top -importanc ecategory when you tagged it more deletion. SHould n't it just be Top importance Tibet articles? After all the template still read WIkiProject China Its just I am organizing the Category under CHina like Hong Kong. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I just set up Category:Top-importance Tibet articles. I have categorized it as Category:WikiProject Tibet ok? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Is this what you mean? Template:WikiProject Tibet banner? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Please note though that Portal:Tibetan Buddhism exists and all the categories for WikiProject Tibetan Buddhism most of which are empty. SHould this be moved to WikiProject Tibet? Plus I don't think User:Sylvain1972 is aware of events. I don't know how many articles are related to Tibetan Buddhism but it can't be a huge number although I do see the idea of the project from a religious viewpoint. But I am quick to say that a major part of Wikiproject Tibet is religously entwined anyway. What shall we do? I don't want to offend people who started that project by moving their page but isn't it best under Wikiproject Tibet? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't create that banner though. However please could you make two adjustmnets to the CHina Tibet= yes template. About the This is maintained by the Tibet workgroup please can you change it to "This article is maintained by the WikiProject Tibet workgroup".

Also could you add the Potala image symbol of wiki project tibet before "This article" in the China template or put it in the place of the Chinese symbol in the margin?. Like the Chinese template has that image but a smaller image of the Potala it the Tibet work section ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I think I have solved the conroversy between labelling pages like the Dalai Lama as chinese by keeping the Tibetan Buddhims template -CHanging it to Wikiproject Tibet:Tibetan Buddhism and adding the Category: WikiProject Tibet articles -this way it avoids the China tag but is still in the Category:Tibetan articles. This should avoid conflict I think! Tibetan buddhism is a useful way to avoid directly labelling figures such as the Dalai laam as under China - this might lead to some serious opposition!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Most pages though should be tagged as Chinese|tibet=yes but ones which are less sensitive and more politically correct! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I have sorted it out now - I am keeping the Wikiproject Tibetan Buddhism as a sub order of WIkiProject Tibet - the template is useful for identifying buddhist articles from the tibet/china articles - going in both categries for more focus ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 18:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:CHINA Reassessment parameter?

Hi, I've recently seen some articles that have been expanded and now need to be reassessed. Would it be feasible to set up a parameter for this? Hi, I'm new to joining wiki. I have a question: besides telling you and making you aware here, how do I report that I expanded a stub article so that it can be removed from the stub list? [edit] Needing Help on Picture Upload Copywright License

I have a question about a recently uploaded photo that I want to use for Liuhe Pagoda of China. The article lacked any picture, and it really needs one, considering that it is one of the greatest Song Dynasty (or any) Chinese pagoda standing today.

The image is found at this link here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Liuhe_Pagoda.jpg

If you would be so kind, I'd like to have you or somebody else verify the copywright license (it's some random American guy's vacation blog pic). In the meantime, I have given it the GFDL presumed tag, but if I do not verify the copywright stuff, it will be deleted in 7 days!

[edit] Peer Review for Song Dynasty

Hello. I've put a lot of work into the Song Dynasty article, and I was wondering if you could provide some feedback through peer review.

Wikipedia:Peer review/Song Dynasty/archive1

Thanks, --PericlesofAthens 05:28, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for your input! It was very valuable, since no one else has peer reviewed it at all! Lol. If you go back, you can see many changes to it already, including a new section on architecture (with a cool photo of the Liuhe Pagoda). It's going to take a while to revert all those references to the inline-citation type, but for featured-article status, I think it is worth my effort.

Oh, and one more thing. What was that about an infobox? I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. I'm still new here to wiki.

--PericlesofAthens 23:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...I totally would use an infobox, but there's already that enormous box list of 'Chinese History' taking up all the space in the beginning of the article. I don't think there's a way to merge the two, and having both of them would look far too cluttered. Thoughts?

--PericlesofAthens 00:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Awesome! However...

Thanks, this article looks incredibly well-done and professional now with your tweeks and adjustments (I noticed you changed the 'notes' section to 'citations', good choice).

One little note of discrepancy though: you have the estimated population of the empire at 50 million, when I showed in the second paragraph of the lead that the empire's population was roughly 100 million, twice as big as the preceding Tang (and I cited my source as well, with Ebrey). Are we reading two different sources here? Or is this just the estimate for the Southern Song half of China? Should we break the population part into two sections? Northern Song and Southern Song? And if so, how many more people did the Southern Song have than the Jin Dynasty? I think it's easier just to include Jin and Southern Song into a one-estimate figure for the whole of China; 100 million people. Thoughts?

--PericlesofAthens 01:00, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] It's Looking Professional (wink, wink)

Check out the Song article now. I just added a new Family and Gender section, along with a quote by Shen Kuo on the use of a drydock in the 11th century to repair boats.

--PericlesofAthens 19:18, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, I just updated the Song Dynasty thread with a lot of new info in the architecture section; it's worth looking at, I assure you. ;)

However, someone in the discussion for the candidacy of FA status has recently asked me to cite the publisher and author info for the external weblink sources. I did as she asked, but she says I must have been confused, because she wants more changes to be done. Could you check it out? I'm not quite sure what she's getting at now.

A large part of the article is now missing from view because of his edit. When you go to edit the page, though, the missing part of the article is there in print! Here is the missing chunk:

[edit] Partisans and Factions, Reformers and Conservatives

A portrait painting of Chancellor Wang Anshi
A portrait painting of Chancellor Wang Anshi

After students passed the often difficult, bureaucratic, and heavily-demanding Imperial Exams, as they became officials, they did not always see eye to eye with others that had passed the same examination. Even though they were fully-fledged graduates ready for government service, there was always the factor of competition with other officials. Promotion to a higher post, higher salary, additional honors, and selection for choice assignment responsibilities were often uncertain, as young new officials often needed higher-ranking officials to recommend them for their services. Once an official would rise to the upper echelons of central administration based in the capital, they would often compete with others over influence of the emperor's official adoption of state policies. Officials with different opinions on how to approach administrative affairs often sought out other officials for support, leading to pacts of rivaling officials lining up political allies at court to sway the emperor against the faction they disagreed with.

Factional strife at court first became apparent during the 1040s AD, with a new state reform initiated by Fan Zhongyan. Fan was a capable military leader (with successful battles in his record against the Tanguts of Xi-Xia) but as a minister of state he was known as an idealist, once saying that a well-minded official should be one that was "first in worrying about the world's troubles and last in enjoying its pleasures".[1] When Fan rose to the seat of Chancellor, there was a growing opposition to him within the older and more conservative crowd. They disliked his pushing for reforms for the recruitment system, higher pay for minor local officials to discourage against corruption, and wider sponsorship programs to ensure that officials were drafted more on the basis of their intellect and character. However, his reforms were cancelled within a year's time (with Fan replaced as Chancellor), since many older officials who were halfway through their careers were not keen on making changes that could affect their comfortably-set positions.[1]

Is there some way to make it visible again? I hope this can be sorted out soon, because the article looks very bad at present because of this large random part missing.

--PericlesofAthens 03:47, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

I just fixed it, it was a random backslash that he had forgot to place. I can't believe I just spotted that!

Thanks anyways... --PericlesofAthens 04:11, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Could you please look over it one more time at let me know about any changes that might need to be made for it to become a good article? Specifically:

  • Do you think that reference #36 is a reliable source? I just needed somewhere that talked about some of the basics, rather than the narrow academic scope of the journal articles. The Wichmann book has some of the same info, but I feel like I have used that enough as it is.
  • I moved the aesthetics section to be the first subsection of the performance elements section, because I felt that the aesthetic principles discussed there can be found in the proceeding performance elements as well. Does that structure work for you?

Of course, any other thoughts that you have would be great too. Thanks in advance for your help!--Danaman5 03:41, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey, sorry to bother you one more time. What do you think about the first picture at the top of the article? (of Yang Guifei) I removed it earlier because I was suspicious of the copyright. It is a reupload of a Chinese version that doesn't exist, done by a now blocked user, and linked to a source that doesn't exist. However, another user wanted it back in, so now there are two pictures, and that looks terrible. Do you think the Yang Guifei picture is safe to use?--Danaman5 08:44, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Personal attacks on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alekhine's defense, Modern variation, 4...Bg4

Hi, would you mind taking the time to put a NPA template on the offending user's page? I do not know that it would do any good, but if I tried it, I know it'd almost certainly not work. FrozenPurpleCube 07:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Editor Review

Hi, I see you do a lot of work on editor review! I hope you don't mind me contacting you like this, but myself and another user have had their editor review pages up for quite some time and noone has reviewed. So I thought you might be the best person to contact seeing as though you appear to be the most active. The other user's editor review is here and mine is here. These are the only teo on the Editor review main page with asterisks next to them. I's sorry if you feel this way of contacting you is inappropriate, but I have been waiting a long time for my editor review...Partially my fault as I mad it in January and forgot to add it to the main page, and didn't realise until April! And the other user has been waiting quite a while as well! If you have time, please review, if you don't have time, don't worry, someone will do it eventually! :D Asics talk Editor review! 10:01, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I've been reviewed now, so you may want to concentrate on reviewing the other editor. Thanks, Asics talk Editor review! 12:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Good idea! I never thought of moving it to the top! I have no idea why I didn't think of that to be honest, as it seems a simple idea now! I've moved it now. Thanks for telling me that! I really have no idea why I didn't think of it!!! Asics talk Editor review! 15:30, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Thankyou for reviewing my Editor Review. I do hope to participate in more discussions, especailly WP:AFD, and have taken all of your comments on board. Thanks! -- Casmith_789 (talk) 15:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Goguryeo

Are you still interested in taking this? No real objections have been raised since you posted on Talk:Goguryeo. I have done all the needed template changes etc. as if you were going to accept it - if you no longer can, please leave a note on my talk page and I'll revert all my changes.

If you can accept it, on behalf of the MedCom, thank you very much, all the best, and if you need any assistance during mediation, please don't hesitate to ask our chair or post on WT:MC. If you can't mediate it, thank you for your offer anyways.

Cheers, Daniel Bryant 06:10, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Just so you know, based on the message you left on Daniel's talk page, indicating confusion about where to go from here, Daniel and I are taking this case. We do appreciate your desire to help out, so we hope you take no offense from this.  : ) Perhaps you could try a smaller case at the Mediation Cabal? — Armed Blowfish (mail) 16:33, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Goguryeo controversies

Isn't this article rather redundant? I was planning to link Northeast Project as the main article, which includes a section on the Goguryeo controversies. Cydevil38 23:18, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, I created the Northeast Project page for the purpose of doing exactly that - to divert the edit war from Goguryeo. It was my intention to leave a brief summary there and just link it to Northeast Project. If you want to further divert this "edit war" to another article, I won't object. But whereever this controversy goes, I believe it should convey claims from both sides. Unfortunately, Assault11's been constantly deleting the Korean claims because he can't agree with them. [edit] Goguryeo mediation

Hi - as a member of the mediation committee, I'm contacting you about your mediation of the Goguryeo dispute. I have been told that concerns have been expressed by parties to the mediation that you may have biases (it is not my place to decide either way), but it is clear that you are continuing to attempt to mediate the dispute. Per Mediation Policy, the mediator must be neutral, and must be acceptable to all parties. If one party raises a concern, no matter how improper it may seem, it is only right that one must stand down as mediator. The mediation committee has accepted this rather complex dispute to mediate on an external wiki, in order to maintain mediation confidentiality, in order to foster an environment of trust. It seems to me that, perhaps, you are confusing the parties to the mediation w.r.t. what is going on - they see you mediating on the article talk page, yet recieve email requests to make accounts on the external wiki - this is making things difficult for us to conduct a full and formal mediation on the subject. I'd appreciate it if you could make a statement clarifying the position in the dispute - I am of the opinion that you could enter the mediation as a party, if you feel that you have a viewpoint and/or something to add. Thanks, Martinp23 20:18, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi - I have read the talk page, and did make the above comment in good faith. I've taken yet another look over the page, and can see a couple of places where you've acted as mediator (accepting the case, something about unprotection), but can't find anywhere that you've actually said that you're no longer mediating, which is almost certainly the root of my confusion. Thanks, Martinp23 10:04, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
