RPG World Online also known as RPGWO is a tile based game set in a dynamic virtual world (MMORPG). It was designed in Visual Basic 6, and was designed and is owned by Michael Kudlo, known in game as Mickey. Currently has a maximum capacity of 100 players on each world playing at once. The game is nearly 6 years old and was started in November of 2000. It is designed with both a point-and-click interface, or keyboard based actions in mind. RPGWO is known for being completely programmed with Visual Basic and having completely dynamic world. Other than the few towns built by administrators, the entire game environment is designed by the players themselves. [edit] Headline text

Liberty was one of the first and most popular worlds and survived for many years before being replaced by SteelTide and then by Nulona. Lunatik started as a strictly Roleplaying server but over time admin enforcement declined and the world was eventually dropped. Phobos was a forced Player versus player world and attracted many veteran players, it was shut down recently and replaced by Shadow. UT World has had several incarnations, most of which were run by one of the most prominent admins, UT (Later Scidhuv, who then retired). It was usually a futuristic world, as well as forced Player versus player.
Asylum(Newb Friendly)
Pyramid(Veterans Recomemded. Foreced PK.)
Zero_Hour(Modern World)
Chaos(No Rules. Player built and run. No admin interference.)
Nexus(Newb Friendly)
are the only official servers currently online. Arcanium has had many different incarnations, including Arcanium II and Arcanium 3000, all of which have been futuristic servers, usually run by the admins UT or Scidhuv. Shadow was created as a very small world to replace Phobos when many players were angry at it's abrupt removal. The newest world is Factions...but was closed a few weeks after it opened.

[edit] Features

RPG World Online has some unique features that are not normally found in free MMORPGs. The world is complety dynamic. Seasons change, water rises and lowers. This game has a unique usage system which allows you to change the world, such as the ability to own houses, make islands, make water, have player owned shops with NPCs that run your shop, and the ability to go underground. You can also have tamed monsters that you can command to attack or defend. The most unique tame is the mule that carry your items for you and can follow you.

Other notable features:

  • Computer run siege system.
  • Guilds
  • Guild Headquarters
  • Every object is an item.
  • Items can be defined with a huge list of properties.
  • Spell casting system using runes.
  • Vitae based death penalty.
  • Have mules to carry a certain amount of items.

[edit] Programming

The game was designed with Microsoft Visual Basic 6, and is still updated using this. The entire RPGWO engine is over 100,000 lines of code.

The game has an advanced random byte checking system for packet verificaiton and checksum system. All logic takes place on the server to reduce exploits. The game although complex, was built on a far less advanced core, which makes it continually harder for the owner to change. It is vulnerable to many exploits varying from server crashes to the common item duplication bugs. The game's servers have been hacked several times, and information like passwords have been given away.

[edit] Picture/Animation Credits

The game's sprites and items etc are almost all original made by many different people. Notable ones are Rummager (a former admin), Stormynight (also a former admin), and Person Man (a high level Phobos player).

[edit] Administration

The game is currently programmed and owned by @@@Admin Mickey.

Admins are designated in the following order:
Rank : Name prefix
Admin : @Admin
Super Admin : @@Admin
Ultra Admin : @@@Admin

Admin Characters are a special kind of character, they basically have none of the actual game playing functionality of Player Characters(i.e. Admins can't fight). Admin Characters are able to see Players that are in "Stealth", go through walls, and warp anywhere.

"Moderators" or "Mods" do not have any powers that can let them edit the game environment. They can moderate the text based chat by muzzling offending players. A player may be muzzled for innapropriate chat messages, and then they won't be able to talk. They can turn on/off Global Chat, as well as being able to set the global chat delay. They have banning powers, but they are limited. Mods don't have any name prefix because mod powers are given to regular characters who aren't an admin, and the Player Characters of the Admins. A moderator is just a regular character that is able to moderate chat.

@Admins are mainly an upgraded mod, although mods were introduced recently.

@@Admins were intended to help build the world, however this has led to some abuse in the past, and their powers are now limited.

@@@Admins can give/take moderator rights, close and restart the server and edit accounts. This is only given in rare cases as it can lead to high abuse.
