[edit] Fictional character biography

Aquamaria (Maria last name unknown) survived the Big Bang while floating in the (fictional) James River; as a result, she was transformed into "living water". A former member of the Sociedad de la Cruz gang, she exhibits all the properties of water - for instance, she has survived evaporation and recondensation. She also has substantial control over water in all its forms: she can induce tsunamis and geysers, and shape near-freezing vapor into ice sculptures. Later, she displays the ability to change the temperatures of water, changing boiling water and steam to ice and back. Unlike her Blood Syndicate teammate Brickhouse, who was merged with a wall to become "living brick", Aquamaria does not display any signs of brain damage.

Aquamaria is formerly of the gang Corp de la Cruz or the Society of the Cross, Aquamaria is a Bang-Baby, a young woman of living water and control over water. She was first introduced in Issue 10, when rival teams the Shadow Cabinet and the Star Chamber were both looking to recruit the Blood Syndicate; a massive brawl breaks out between all three groups, fighting was ended when Aquamaria - in the James River - sent a wave to douse everyone - cooling then all off. After meeting up with Wise-Son, she is accepted into the Blood Syndicate. In the Worlds Collide Crossover Aquamaria died saving Metropolis from a tidal wave sent by Rift, but like everyone else was discovered as ok when the worlds returned to normal.

[edit] Other media

  • Aquamaria renamed "Aqua-Maria" was first seen in "Bad Stretch" in Season 2 of Static Shock, as a new member of the Meta-Breed. She was stealing from a racetrack when Static came to stop her and she almost defeated him, but was trapped by a reformed Rubberband Man and arrested by the Police into a special containment unit. Aqua-Maria, Talon, Shiv, and Carmen-Dillo were busted out of the Meta-Human Wing of the Dakota Prison by Ebon, disguised as Rubberband Man. Static subsequently defeated her by using his powers to electrolyze her. She was voiced by Erika Velez. It's an interesting quirk that only occurs in this appearance when Aqua-Maria spoke she would repeat the phrase back in Spanish.
  • In "Wet and Wild" she teamed up with Hot-Streak; planning to crash a CD-signing of a new singer, she was frozen in the attempt by Static and Gear. She was offered by a team of scientists to be the first to try their antidote for the Big-Bang Mutagen Gas - she agrees after some persuading, (Aqua-Maria reveals that she has a family: a mom and a little sister); but it is sabotaged by Hot-Streak and Aqua-Maria ends up going down a drain. After kidnapping one of the scientists and then learning it was Hot-Streak who sabotages her chance to return to normal she becomes enraged and threatens to flood the City of Dakota. Static and Gear track her down to the Bay and administer a sample of the antidote and she returns to normal. After a few more doses, Aqua-Maria is totally cured. She was voiced by Yeni Alvarez this time.
