[edit] History
The company was established in 1990 by the Flemish government, which is also its major shareholder. The Flemish government gave the company the mission to design, finance, build and operate all supramunicipal infrastructure needed to treat domestic wastewater and to optimise all main sewers and sewage treatment plants which Aquafin took over from the Flemish Environmental Agency. Outside Flanders Aquaplus (a 100% subsidiary) is active in sewage treatment and also towards industrial companies in Flanders. In 2004 the project RI-ANT started (together with the Antwerp Water Works), which takes over the management and the maintenance of the sewerage network of Antwerp.
