[edit] Relation to other lunar eclipses
This eclipse is the last of four Metonic cycle lunar eclipses on the same date, April 23-24, each separated by 19 years:
- April 23, 1948 [1] - partial (Saros series 111)
- April 24, 1967 [2] - total (Saros series 121)
- April 24, 1986 [3] - total (Saros series 131)
- April 24, 2005 - penumbral (Saros series 141)
The moon's path through the earth's shadow near its descending node progresses southward through each sequential eclipse. The second and third are total eclipses. |
