Talk:Apolyton Civilization Site
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Labeling the forums as the most important part of Apolyton, while I do agree, may be considered a bit distasteful by the owners of the site, Dan and Markos who have said in the past that they do not consider the forums as important as those who happen to post in them. I don't know whether to change it or not, so a discussion may be beneficial to deciding this issue.

Pandering to the owners is not the buisiness of an objective information source. Forums are the single most important reason that the site exists, so I don't see a need to change that entry.

Well, if it isn't completely obvious (and it isn't), an encyclopedic article should not give a subjective opinion on which part of the site is the most important. Lets just say the forum exists, and maybe what role they fill. Thue | talk 11:49, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Quote: "Apolyton is the largest web site on the Internet dedicated to connecting players of the Civilization series..." Isn't CFC larger? At least the forums there are much larger. --Oagersnap 20:56, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sources
The site needs to be the subject of multiple non-trivial works by independent reliable sources. And before anyone mentions the usercount, a perusal of the memberlist shows that only about 21,000 members of the 89,000 have ever posted, and about 22,000 haven't been activated (assumedly, as 46,000 came up when searching for users with less than 1 post).--Drat (Talk) 17:37, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I know that membership is irrelevant. (Part of the reason why Apolyton got keep and CFC got a no consensus in their respective AFDs that happened simultaneously) I'm pretty sure that there is a bunch of sources on Apolyton University - it's been used in research papers, IIRC. Google brings up a few -

In particular, Kurt Squire did his dissertation on Apolyton University. Google Scholar brings up 12 for Apolyton+civilization. - Bill3000 20:52, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
