Feel free to add to or take away from this nascent attempt at a working definition of apocalyptic folk. It certainly doesn't take into account the occasional non-fatalism of Sol Invictus, Death in June, etc. even though many of their albums are "apocalyptic". Is there a better appellation for describing this music?

To eschew with labels althogether is the route I'd most eagerly pursue. Unfortunately, the music must be categorized in a structure that lends itself to to an ease of investigation and comparison. Guidelines must be adhered to in order to create a proper format for inclusion and description.
