[edit] Reward Board offer
Pennsylvania drydocked in the Pacific, circa 1944
I uploaded a color image of the USS Pennsylvania. I believe this fulfills your request of a color image of a piece of World War 2 equipment. If it does, could you get a photograph of One Lincoln Tower in Bellevue, Washington? If this is not possible, then please let me know. Thanks! American Patriot 1776 02:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- The boat's a bit bigger than the sort of thing I was expecting, but it certainly meets my requirements. :-)
- Bellevue is a bit far from here. I've got better access to eastern Washington and northern Idaho. I might be able to get there in late August, but even then, it's about three hours out of my way. Do you have something else you want a picture of? --Carnildo 06:16, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Would the University of Idaho Arboretum and Botanical Garden work better? American Patriot 1776 20:12, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- I should be able to get there next Saturday. Anything in particular you want me to photograph? --Carnildo 22:56, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

- Your choice: Overview from the north, or panorama from the northwest. I've also got about two hundred pictures of individual trees and plants I'm cleaning up, sorting, and posting to Commons. --Carnildo 05:14, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Congressional Articles for Improvement
Hi. I noticed that you were a memeber of ProjectCongress and have an interest in U.S. senators and I was wondering if you had an interest in being an active member in the improvement drive. It's been dead for a few weeks, but I'm attempting to gather around ten people to help on it. It seems kind of hard to improve an article single handedly but with that many people working on it it should be doable. If it returns there would probably be some structural changes (time period, only one article during it). I'm an admirer of the U.S. Senate too, and I would like to see some of their WP articles become featured, are you interested?TonyJoe 23:06, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I removed the db on this article, as the book actually seems to exist, and as such, it's not G1 deletable. Please feel free to take to AfD on the notability issue. Cheers -- Samir धर्म 07:27, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] School board
I didn't just randomly delete them. The two I cut were already listed members of the school board: the president and vice president. Didn't strike me as appropriate to list them as such, and then list them again as "other" members. --Xanzzibar 00:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Project updates
|
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!
WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:
- An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
- Evolving lists into regular articles
- Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
- Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
- More to come
These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.
|
Things to do
|
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving! |
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
|
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective. |
|
Article evolution
|
As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.
For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.
Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Can you place a speedy tag on all the pages you want deleted? I've deleted a good amount, but I'm not sure of some that could still look usable. Also, it bogs down how quickly I can delete the page when I retract the redirect. Thanks, Yanksox 04:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 21:57, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair-use images removed from your user page
Hello, American Patriot 1776. I've removed some images from User:American Patriot 1776/uploaded images, as they are copyrighted images that are being used under claims of fair use. Unfortunately, by Wikipedia policies, no fair-use images can be used on user pages; please see the ninth item of the Wikipedia fair-use policy and Wikipedia:Removal of fair use images. These images have not been deleted from any articles. If you have any questions, please let me know. —Bkell (talk) 16:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Smathers.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Smathers.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 16:16, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Smathers.jpg
An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Smathers.jpg, has been listed at

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter
|
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential! |
What's New?
|
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs. |
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas. |
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.

|
- In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
- The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
- Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
- Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
- Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
- There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors! |

Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.
Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

[edit] Your warning was in error
I see you posted a warning template on Jasper's page. No, edits like the one he did at Howard Dean aren't considered vandalism, they're considered reverting vandalism. Please take a look at it here. Jasper missed that the earlier IP edit that he reverted to was also vandalism, that's why you see this at the next edit. I recommend double-checking before planting warning templates on established users. Not using those templates for them at all is even better, as the impersonality of templates (easily recognized as such by an experienced user) is more inflammatory and annoying than a human voice. - Our requests page has extensive lists of requested articles, images, maps, and translations.
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 03:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
