There are multiple methods of time measurements that have been documented in various Hindu texts and scriptures which are known to be atleast a few thousand years old. A lot of this literature is not purely mathematical or scientific, but maths and science interspersed in religious, philosophical, mythological or a combination of these, content.
One of the oldest of such scriptures in known to be the "Surya Siddhant" which was believed to be knowledge imparted by the Sun himself to the nobel demon, Mayasur. This work starts with the concepts of time measurement and then goes on to lay down the principles of astrology, one of the oldest such principles known to mankind.
There are two basic methods of time propounded by this scripture.
