[edit] Biography

Born and based in Jerez de la Frontera, Anvil of Doom start their career in 2002, after several years of underground activity and line-up changes in search of a solid basis. The band entered the studio and recorded their acclaimed demo "Died Before Dawn", which had a great success among their followers, and permitted Anvil of Doom to sign a deal with Xtreem Music.

Through 2003, Anvil of Doom work in new material for their first album, while improving their live experience, playing through all Andalusia with local bands, and also sharing stage with Spanish legends Barón Rojo, Soziedad Alkoholika or Avulsed. They also take part in the Xtreem Music Festival in Madrid, next to bands like Exodus, Nuclear Assault and Grave.

In January 2004, the studio sessions for their first album begin. "Deathillusion" would include three re-recordings from the demo and six new songs which reflect a clear evolution to a more technical Death Metal, without leaving the band’s distinctive melodic touch. The album was released in October and received very good reviews in specialized media around the world. After recording and mixing, the band gets back on the road, not only in Andalusia, but also beyond.

Anvil of Doom keeps on the road, having played next to many international bands including Testament, Megadeth, Helloween, Scarve, Arkhon Infaustus, Callenish Circle, Dismember, Sodom, Saxon, Annihilator, Blind Guardian or Kreator and have also headlined several festivals around their country.

Anvil of Doom have also appeared in many radio shows, magazines and e-zines, Spanish as well as foreign ones, and concert reviews in Heavy Rock Magazine and Kerrang!.

Apart from playing live, during 2007 the band is focused on composing and rehearsing to prepare new songs for their upcoming second album. But by the end of that year, Beltrán departed for musical differences, due to the band's evolution. Some months later, Salvi would leave Anvil of Doom as well without apparent reasons. The band remained as a power trio, with Tzaraath on the vocal role until a new singer is found.

[edit] Genre and influences

Basically Anvil of Doom plays death metal[1]. On early stages, the band was more focused on melodic death metal, hardly influenced by Swedish bands like Arch Enemy, Darkane, In Flames or Soilwork. After recording Died Before Dawn, the new compositions for Deathillusion pointed to a more technical approach on the steps of North American acts like Death, and more presence of classical thrash metal riffs, without losing the band's distinctive melodic reference.[2]. This tendency is more patent on recent songs, composed for their future second album.
