Anuloma pranayama
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anuloma pranayama is a type of Pranayama. Anuloma in Sanskrit means "alternate". It is one of the easier ones of the pranayama's, and can be practiced without expert guidance.
Anuloma pranayama is breathing through alternate nostrils of the nose.[1] It is practiced by sitting any asana such as sukhasana, vajrasana or padmasana etc. Alternate nostrils are closed generally by using right hand thumb and little fingers, while middle 3 fingers are joined together. Mouth is closed and not used for breathing.
Cycle of practice is:
- Right nostril is closed by thumb and breath is exhaled through left nostril. And inhaled back through same nostril.
- Left nostril is closed by little finger and breath is exhaled through right nostril. And inhaled back through same nostril.
This is repeated at a normal breathing rate. Changing nostril after exhaling is considered wrong practice. This pranayama has many benefits and cools the brain.[2]
