[edit] Notability of Kent Simpson

A tag has been placed on Kent Simpson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mentality 01:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I added support for keeping the article, if the subject of the article is indeed a professional hockey player. -Everyguy 01:11, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I have replied to your opinion on the talk page :) May I also refer the author to WP:MoS as hardly a single standard has been complied with thus far. Mentality 01:24, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Antmayfield

Certainly, if you wish to talk to me, my talk page is the best place to do so! :P Something I notice you don't do though is sign your messages, if you end your message with four tildes (~) then it'll sign the end of the message. Anyway, moving on...

Firstly, when creating an article it's probably quite helpful to everyone if you first write out everything you're going to contribute in a text editor, or the Sandbox before starting a new article. When you first created the article Kent Simpson it failed just about every criteria for an article on Wikipedia and was thus marked for speedy deletion (quite rightly so). Someone else removed that tag however, as they are entitled to do so, and they cited their reasons for this on the talk page of that article.

I appreciate you have improved this article since its first creation. I do question though why, on the roster of the Everett Silvertips article, and at their website, Simpson's name does not appear? I looked at the all-time roster and did a search for 'Kent' and 'Simpson', but no such match? Might be my own ignorance, I know nothing about hockey! I mean he appears in one of the news articles on the website, but not the roster? Am i just reading things wrong?

The article still fails to meet guidelines set out in the manual of style article, not that that is a reason for deletion, but it would perhaps help. I must say though I still question this person's biographical notability. Sorry, but I just don't see how someone who came 22nd in a junior hockey league warrants an article purely about them. As I said before, he may be an up and coming world famous super ice hockey world champion, but Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. And if there's an article about this guy, why not Kyle Beach or Eric Doyle? Or every other player in the top 30 of the WHL?

I don't want to see articles get deleted, but if my thoughts on this are correct (and I'm not a genius wikipedian like some people so it's quite possible they aren't!) then this person doesn't warrant an article on them. That's not to say they never will, or that you've wasted your time (save the article in a text editor, hide it somewhere on your computer, and come back later), but right now?

Anyhoo, I thought I'd just clarify my reasons for nominating the article for deletion. It's not a personal attack on you or anything, or your efforts, just stating the way I see things! We'd just better leave it in the capable hands of those who comment on AfDs and who have a bit more experience than the pair of us! :P Mentality 11:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kent Simpson

I read your message on the talkpage, and don't worry about it. I contacted the person that nominated it for AFD, and he didn't know that, per WP:BIO, people that are in the highest level of amateur sports are allowed to be included in Wikipedia. Right now, it looks like a keep or no concensus (which results in keeping the article, despite concensus). Just keep working, and everything'll work out. Cool Bluetalk to me 22:51, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You're welcome

You're welcome. If I can get away the Hibhib article, Kent Simpson definitely deserves "a nod from Wikipedia". Cool Bluetalk to me 23:09, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was no concensus, which means the article gets to stay. I've started some cleanup on it. Cool Bluetalk to me 21:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
