AntiVandalBot
AntiVandalBot is a bot that reverts vandalism. On October 24th 2006 (Firefox 2.0 day) the accounts Tawkerbot2 and Tawkerbot4 stopped editing and all bot activity was moved to AntiVandalBot as the name is more descriptive. AntiVandalBot runs on the toolserver.

What AntiVandalBot is
AntiVandalBot is an automated computer program based on patterns that catches vandalism. It is a set of check statements that if enough match true, it reverts. The patterns will be emailed upon request to users who can be trusted (for obvious reasons I'm not giving it to vandals). It also restores the header on the introduction page. It checks for vandalism in the article, help, category, and Wikipedia namespaces, as well as other pages upon request.
What AntiVandalBot is not
- AntiVandalBot is not an admin (although its owners, Tawker, Joshbuddy, and Cyde Weys are), it does not block users. AntiVandalBot does not have the intelligence of a human being and it will not catch everything.
- AntiVandalBot does not catch all vandalism, only some obvious vandalism. Human RC patrollers will always be needed.
- AntiVandalBot does not revert page-move vandalism.
- AntiVandalBot does not detect redirect vandalism (users redirecting pages to inappropriate locations)

Thanks AntiVandalBot - just saved Babur from egregious vandalism twice before I'd even noticed. Great Job. Sikandarji 11:15, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
AntiVandalBot is great. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more useful to release the pattern-match than to continue keeping it secret. My rationale is that most vandals are casual dweebs and not likely to research enough to figure out how to get a copy of the pattern-match and then actually study it to figure out where the holes are. By sharing the pattern-match, people interested enough to get the pattern-match and read it could contribute to closing the holes (sort of an "open source" approach).
I just noticed that AntiVandalBot deleted a racial comment from the article on Booker T. Washington. Way to go!!! I'm glad that didn't stay up for long! Imagine someone of the targeted race researching Booker T. and finding that slur in the middle of the article. Congrats, AntiVandalBot!
Alternatively, there could be a means of reporting vandalism that is not caught by AntiVandalBot. Maybe the rv function on "popups" could be modified to automatically notify the AntiVandalBot developers when a human reverts vandalism. Richard 16:31, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Something like AntiVandalBot has too much possibility. We should watch out. It's one step away from being sentient. Beware! I'm not sure if you ruined my vandalism experiment or not. Whatever the outcome, you provided some interesting data. For obvious vandalism - the vandalism in question was in Pseudonym and read "[THIS IS SOME VANDALISM. I'M TRYING TO PROVE A POINT ABOUT HOW MUCH TIME IT WILL TAKE TO REMOVE IT. MY GUESS: LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES.]" - I turned out to be wrong in my hypothesis. Although, technically, I was right - it was less than five minutes, it was about four seconds. 58.107.16.154 02:37, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing vandalism to my opening graf of Art article. I really struggled with a definition that respected the distinction between aesthetics and art, and I of course welcome a well-meaning critique or discussion, even from a former vandal! Julie Martello 12:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
By protecting the letter "L", you singlehandedly saved the English language! Well, there's always the looming threat of ebonics, but that's for another day!
A blessing to have on election night...
Pleasantly surprised to find that this bot had done my work on one of my more frequently vandalised watched pages. siarach 19:39, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia presents: Real Bots of Genius. Today we saulte you, Mr. AntiVandalBot. What does it take to get up and rock the house? Four million lines of basic programing, a will to rival that of Skynet, and one bad ass sense of justice. Vacations? Not for you, because your place is here, patiently waiting to throw down some 24th century justice on those who were foolish enough to wrestle with you. And all without the aid of a laobour union or a paycheck. So lets break out the fireworks folks, and celebrate the one and only AntiVandalBot! TomStar81 (Talk) 07:27, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I started RC patrolling yesterday (Oct 10) and you have reverted many edits I wanted to revert. Good work. -- A. Wang (talk/contrb.) 16:12, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Aargh! I praise your hard work... yet protest because you revert vandalism only seconds before I do! Scoutersig 18:41, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- AARGH again! I'm almost mad, except that the end result (i.e. no vandalism) is the same either way. Scoutersig 02:08, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Nice work, some minor flaws but other then that you get rid of some tedious work that we would otherwise have to do! Thanks Woodenbuddha 21:16, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
You are really, really useful! Keep up the good work! --Calupict! 03:26, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
AntiVandalBot is usually a good thing, but sometimes it makes mistakes. 207.200.116.13 02:13, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
If AntiVandalBot were a woman, and not a computer program without any physical existence except as electrical signals being sent through some servers in Florida, I would marry her. -- THLCCD 07:52, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Hello Vandal Bot, i am a lovely lady bot looking for a man of your caliber
Your my hero, I'm naming my children after you!!
Thanks for stopping another horrid attack by a vandal on the Dora the explorer page our younger users and me thank you! Superx 02:46, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
So far I have found only 3 exploits so I guess thats pretty good. To bad the bot is very easily confused and has a hard time dealing with many edits at the same time from the same user. What a shame, perhaps you are just lazy to fix the problem.
Thanks for fixing the Gears of War page. :D --Jecrell 06:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
An anti-vandal bot... that's pretty darn cool. Eddygazilion 04:24, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Wow... The scripting for this 'bot must have been really complicated... I approve! Registered Arsonist 178327 Was here. 17:12, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
This bot is so effective. I check the recent changes for vandalism. I spot some. I notice a next revision link. I find that AntiVandalBot has already reverted the vandalism. This bot is effective! --Joe Schme(ssages)dley 21:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Great bot!--Ari89 04:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Best bot ever. <3 GeeCee 08:49, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
AWESOME!!!
Great job of keeping the 1337 page clean! ThreeDee912 05:19, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I read an article yesterday that predicted the demise of Wikipedia in less than five years because editors would get tired of reverting vandalism and then Wikipedia would become a wasteland of sledge. But bots don't get tired! Great job (and here's to another five years and more)!--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 16:45, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
A great bot, I don't know what Wikipedia would do without it.--Res2216firestar 22:44, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Love the photo of the ship firing and the "this bot is a joint venture of..." It makes it seem so quaint and amusing. Cute little bot, working hard all day. You should give him some kind of face or just otherwise encourage users to anthropomorphize the bot as much as possible. He works so hard!! --Clngre 16:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
your bot is awesome :)Preeeemo 23:26, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Neat picture of the ship. Brian Boru is awesome 21:13, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you mate! User:Matt-rex 10:57, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Can I really vandalize here anymore? ♥ Fredil 02:08, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Less than a minute. That's how long it takes before AntiVandalBot finds and reverts vandalism. Maybe one day we won't need Wikipedians at all? Yay unto the Chicken 12:24, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I am so frustrated as a new user. I just got here with Arnold Schwarzenegger's accident. Tried to cite references, clean up the trivia, only to have it vandalized. I thank you for doing a revert earlier. I've cited foxnews, CNN, USAtoday, CBS, LAtimes, etc... I'm citing mainstream media on both sides of the isle. Trying to be fair, and get hit with vandals. I sometimes feel my work is for nothing. I thank you for the revert. If not for people like you I might just give up. Thanks and Happy New Year! Jaskemr 00:16, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Go get a life! You have made a whopping 100,000 vandal reversions. Is that all you do, editing WP 24 hours a day!? You should leave your computer for once and do something. Do you even stop to eat? Then again, you ARE a robot, you DO revert many, many vandals about ten seconds after they vandalize, and you have been a good vandal reverter ever since you were programmed. Never mind. :-P SupaStarGirl 23:48, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Great work! Please keep up the reverts. It's a better place with your help!Pepto gecko 23:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Keep up the vandalism reverting. You have impressed me. Kamope | userpage | talk | contributions 13:06, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Roar. Despite always annoying me by reverting blatent vansdlaism before I can, I still love you love you love you. I don't know I'm adressing a macro like it is a good looking female. → p00rleno (lvl 80) ←ROCKSCRS 23:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Dang, this thing gets annoying when it beats you by mere seconds. Multiple times in a row. But I don't know what'd we do without it. Excellent work, glad to have you around, AntiVandalBot! Hersfold (talk|work) 18:17, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
THank you so much for reverting the Bullet for My Valentine EP. You rock. Violask81976 22:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
