[edit] Stub-status removal and possible name-change

I added some more information about Antsiferov and, honestly, I don't know that there is much more to add! I've spend several months in the summer on this island (researching Steller sea lions) and while I could discourse at length about the reproductive behavior and foraging trips and population trends of the sea lions, as well as about the one pair of nesting ravens and maybe a half-dozen sea otters, that kind of detail isn't of general interest. It is a completely uninhabited island that is visited only by the occasional sea lion researcher. Can the stub-status be removed?

Regarding the name, I feel it should really be called simply Antsiferov, rather than Antsiferova. The "a" comes from the Russian "Ostrov Antsiferova" which means "Island of Antsiferov", and is a genetive grammatical marker. I think it's an artifact of literal English transliterations of Kuril Island maps. I'm not sure what the process is for renaming an article. Best, Eliezg 10:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Eliezg, nice work on expanding this article when the available info is so limited. I agree with you that it is no longer a stub. As for the name, I think the full translation "Antsiferov Island" is probably better than just "Antsiferov". This would also match the precedent of Atlasov Island, which is an identical naming situation to this one. Since a Google search reveals almost no other webpages about this island (except Wikipedia mirrors/copies), anything we do here is likely to be reflected eventually throughout the web.
The correct way to rename an article is to select "move" at the top of the screen, and type in the new name (making sure that "Move associated talk page" is checked). The old name then becomes a redirect to the new name, and the entire article history is automatically and properly copied to the new article name, too. That's it. But since this talk page is little-visited, I'm not sure how to go about establishing a consensus about the best choice of name prior to renaming. --Seattle Skier (talk) 09:26, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I think the name change to Antsiferov Island is appropriate. --Bejnar 19:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
