Talk:Antonio Cornejo Polar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'd rather the editor who came in and decided Cornejo Polar was insufficiently notable had given some reasons for their judgment. --Jbmurray 18:45, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- The reason that I added the tag, is because there were no references on the article. Wikipedia gets about 2,000 articles added per day, many of which are "spam" articles, by people who are promoting themselves, their companies, their classmates, favorite teacher, etc. Many of these articles are deleted on the spot. So it's best when creating an article, to add a reference or two which proves that the subject is genuinely notable, per WP:BIO. Otherwise the article can be in danger of "speedy deletion." In other words, on Wikipedia, it's not about whether or not a subject is notable, but whether or not the article adequately makes the case for that notability, by providing third-party references. Hope that helps explain, --Elonka 22:38, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

- That's a common response. But with thousands of articles streaming in per day, reviewers don't have time to personally research each subject -- the article should make the case for notability right on the spot. See Wikipedia:Verifiability, in the "nutshell" section at the top. The responsibility for providing sources is on the person who adds the information, not on those who challenge it. Anyway, the point is moot at right now, as the sources you have added to the article are sufficient. For what it's worth, I'm not trying to chastise you -- just to save you future headaches. :) Always include sources and verification of notability, and things will go much much easier for future articles. :) --Elonka 22:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion
I've expanded the article a bit, working mainly from Cornejo-Polar's obituary. I've also linked his name where it's appeared in other article around Wikipedia. I searched the Spanish Wikipedia to see if we should add an interwiki link, but he doesn't appear to be listed there yet.
If someone is familiar with his concept of "heterogeneity", I would recommend adding a couple sentences to that Wikipedia article, with a link back to Cornejo-Polar's bio. We have the word heterogeneity linked here right now, but there's no explanation of just what it means in the Latin-American context. --Elonka 16:53, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I'll try to expand further, later. --Jbmurray 18:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
