Standard Pub. Co. Chicago : 1912. 3 v. in 4. : front., ill., ports.; 28 cm. Vols. I-II edited by Frank W. Blackmar. Transcribed May 2002 by Carolyn Ward."--Esprit15d 19:30, 28 March 2006 (UTC) This is the only reference of the founding of the Anti Horse Thief Association I have ever seen attributed to Ft. Scott, Kansas. All other information states Major David Mckee founded the association in Luray, Mo. in 1854. This information is recorded in the front of much of the AHTA literature (procedings booklets, the AHTA Weekly News newspaper, etc.)and in a large number of historical documents and publications found in the Historical Society libraries of the 13 states in which there were chapters. It is possible the first Kansas Chaper of the AHTA was founded in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Another good resource is the book by Hugh C. Gresham entiled MAJOR DAVID MCKEE Founder of the Anti-Horse Thief Association. Hugh Gresham was from Cheney, KS.
