Talk:Antártica Chilena Province
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chilean Antarctic Territory is being incorrectly redirected to this article. The current article principally concerns the Chilean Province as a populated administrative unit. The antartic territory doesn't even appear in the article's map. As an example of this discipancy, the current article is being linked by the following template which appears in other Antartic territory articles:

The Chilean article is completely out of place in comparison with the other articles because it focuses on the South American portion of the province and barely mentions the bases nor the territorial disputes.
Does anyone know if an article for "Chilean Antarctic Territory" existed previously and was subsequently mereged? If so, I think that should be undone. I want to create a seperate "Chilean Antarctic Territory" that will be comparable to the but I want to make sure first that there won't be anyone wanting to merge it into the current "Antártica Chilena Province" article.--GringoInChile 15:12, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Gringo In Chile, there is no "Chilean Antarctic Territory". From a Chilean point of view, the Chilean Antarctic (I mean real Antarctic south of 60°) is the "municipality" (comuna) of Antarctica, one of the two municipalities of Antarctica province. To make an article consistent with the other Antarctic claims, which also talk about the real Antarctic territories south of 60° only, there would have to be an Article just about the "comuna Antarctica". I'm chilean, excuse my english. The territory claim by Chile (= south of 60ºS) is oficially named "Territorio Chileno Antártico", attending to the order of this words in spanish, it should be traduced as "Antarctic Chilean Territory", and not "Chilean Antarctic Territory" as typically traduced. The "comuna Antártica" is the same territory but it is the administrative name, that obey to the administrative general order of the country. I recommend to create an article "Antarctic Chilean Territory" (or "Chilean Antarctic Territory") in order to just include territories south of 60ºS.

[edit] typo fixed
The box in the upper right corner of the article had Chilean spelled "Chilian". I fixed it. --Coryma 19:42, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Antarctic/Antartic
I was using AWB this morning and it wanted to change Antartic to Antarctic. I noticed that two instances came inside links - but since these were already red links I figured it wouldn't be wrong to change the spelling.
I did make sure that when the non-English word Antártica appears that it should obviously not be changed. Euchiasmus 06:09, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ignota/Incognita?
At first I thought "Terra Ignota" was a typo for "Terar Incognita", but googling turns up both forms in the same documents, so I'm not sure anymore. No "ignota" on the Spanish Wiktionary, either. What's it mean? Urhixidur 17:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Generally Recognised?!
"disputed, as it forms the Chilean claim to Antarctica, stretching south of the 60th parallel to the South Pole, and generally recognized by other nations as part of Chile.[2]" What? Is it really? The link, by the way goes to a Chilean government site. Hence it's not particularly good proof of international recognition.
At the risk of starting a massive war and causing the wiki apocalypse I'll remove it. Furius (talk) 08:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
