Anton Rubinstein Competition

The original Anton Rubinstein Competition was staged by Rubinstein himself every five years from 1890 to 1910 [1]. The winners of the piano competition usually received a white Schroeder piano as the prize. Winners include:
- 1890: Ferruccio Busoni, composition (Concert Piece for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 31a)
- 1895: Josef Lhévinne, piano
- 1900: Alexander Fyodorovich Gedike, composition
- 1905: Wilhelm Backhaus, piano. Béla Bartók took second prize.
- 1910: Sergei Prokofiev, composition (Piano Concerto No. 1)
Maria Yudina recalled [2] that she and her classmate Vladimir Sofronitsky had won the competition in 1920 when they both graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory, although the competition had officially ended 10 years earlier.
Since 2003, the "Anton G. Rubinstein" International Piano Competition has been revived in Dresden, Germany. Winners include:
