Antlar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Antlar (アントラー Antorā) was a monster from the Ultraman television series. Antlar appeared as a giant creature, armored but anthropomorphic from the neck down, with an oversized beetle-like head and mandibles. Antlar had the power to blow or exhale a fog-like cloud of irritating and temporarily blinding fumes, and also had the power to magnetically affect iron and other magnetic metals. This was one of the few creatures that was destroyed by a Science Patrol member rather than Ultraman. In some respects, such as Antlar's habit of burrowing in at the bottom of the conical impact crater, Antlar resembles an ant lion.
[edit] Ultraman
Antlar arrived on Earth after a meteoric impact somewhere in a desert in Central Asia. When the Science Patrol investigated the impact area, they discovered a mysterious mountain culture nearby, ruled by an attractive, gifted multilingual princess (and possibly high priestess). The culture was apparently familiar with other monsters from space landing in their vicinity in ancient times, and even back then, an Ultra-being must have intervened, because the culture created and revered a statue of the Ultra-being. (The statue is identified in Ultraman lore as "Noa.")
The Science Patrol struggled with Antlar, having both aircraft and weapons magnetized and taken from their control. Once Shin Hayata transformed let Ultraman take over and began to battle Antlar, the princess delivered the orb clasped by the statue of Noa to Captain Mura, and conveyed that the device was a weapon for just this sort of emergency. Taking advantage of a moment when Ultraman and Antlar were not entangled, Captain Mura threw the orb like a grenade, and destroyed Antlar.
[edit] Ultraman Max
This monster re-appeared in the series Ultraman Max.
