[edit] College career

Waters attended Clemson University for college. After building a great career as a dynamic playmaker and leader for the Clemson defense with Gaines Adams, Waters senior season ended early as he tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee September 3rd, 2006 in the opening game of the season against Florida Atlantic. This is the same injury that new Charger teammate Antonio Cromartie had in 2005 and was able to recover from.[1]

[edit] NFL career

[edit] 2007 NFL Draft

Waters was drafted by the Chargers in the 3rd round, 95th overall, of the 2007 NFL Draft. Waters looked like a probable top 50 prospect entering the 2006 season, but the knee injury and his level of development pushed him to the third round. Cromartie's successful recovery probably made the decision easier on Charger brass. Waters was able to work out for scouts at the Clemson Pro Day, April 3, 2007, just 7 months removed from ACL surgery.

Norv Turner, head coach of the Chargers, reflected on the pick of Waters and said, “When we made the selection, a yell came from our defensive staff room... They looked at last year’s tape of him and they’re excited. He’s a downhill player, outstanding tackler and physical player. He’s really a good athlete. He can run and cover.”[2]

[edit] San Diego Chargers

Entering the 2007 training camp, Waters' main goals are fully recovering from injury and learning the playbook. His role for the 2007-08 season will be mostly on special teams as he is currently behind Stephen Cooper, Matt Wilhelm, and Tim Dobbins on the depth chart as they all have experience in the scheme. Waters along with fellow draftee Brandon Siler figure to offer depth and solid special teams play their rookie seasons.

[edit] Personal

[edit] July 3rd, 2007 incident

In Nichols, South Carolina, Waters was arrested with simple assault and battery on July 3rd, 2007 for his part in an attack on Colby Sarvis after Sarvis allegedly threw a brick at the windshield of the car Waters was driving on Nichols Highway. Sarvis was a passenger in a car driving in front of Waters. Waters and his friend, Brian Rogers, hit Sarvis on his head and body in retaliation. Later, Sarvis was charged with malicious damage to personal property. All three were released on $1,000 bail.[4] It should be noted that on 11-26-2007, the charges against Sarvis were dropped. According to sources at the Horry county courthouse there was no evidence to support Water's claim. According to several eye witness accounts, Sarvis had nothing to do with the broken windshield. The witnesses for Water's proved to be unreliable since alcohol was involved. All charges are still pending against Waters and Brian Rogers.
