Anthony Smith (GC)

Anthony Smith GC, was awarded the George Cross for the heroism he displayed on the 23rd of February 1944 in rescuing people from a bomb damaged building in the World's End in London. A chimney sweep and shoemaker by trade, he was attached to the Chatham Division of the Civil Defence Rescue Service. Notice of his award was published in the London Gazette on the 30th of May, 1944.[1]
