[edit] Club career

Šerić was born to a Croatian family in Sydney, Australia and received a football scholarship to the Australian-taxpayer-funded Australian Institute of Sport. He began his professional football career in Split, Croatia where he played for Hajduk Split. He then moved to Italy to play in Serie A, initially with Verona and then Brescia, Parma and Lazio, before signing for Panathinaikos in 2005.

In June 2008, he moved to the Turkish side, Beşiktaş JK on a free transfer. He is contracted to Beşiktaş until 2010 with another year of team option. He is planned to be the replacement for Beşiktaş captain İbrahim Üzülmez.

[edit] International career

He made his debut for the Croatian national team in a friendly match against Slovakia on May 29, 1998 in Pula and collected up to this time a total of 16 international caps for the team. In 1998, he was infamously picked for both Australia and Croatia.[1] He opted to play for Croatia, and his decision immediately paid dividends as the nation finished 3rd at France 1998. He has since been a part of the Croatian squad at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, but did not play any matches on all of these three tournaments.

In May 2007 Anthony had a dispute with national team's coach Slaven Bilić and was sent out of the team's base. He was not called by Bilić anymore in Euro 2008 qualifiers.
