Anthems for the Damned is the fourth studio album by American industrial rock band Filter, and was released for sale to the public on May 13, 2008.[1]
This new album marks Filter's first studio project since The Amalgamut in 2002. Shortly after that release, the band went on a hiatus and lead singer Richard Patrick began to explore other creative endeavors. In 2005, he put his energies into a new collaboration in the form of Army of Anyone, which included former Stone Temple Pilots members.[2]
When that collaboration was completed, Patrick began to consider the possibility of a new Filter album that would express some of his feelings about the current state of the world, and the current state of his life. Anthems for the Damned, released through their new label Pulse Recording [3], was the result of those efforts.
The first single from the album, "Soldiers of Misfortune"[4], was released through the band's MySpace page and began receiving radio play around the same time. In May 30, 2008, the band released a "Soldiers of Misfortune" promo videoclip through MTV.com, the license only restricted MTV.com from playing the video outside the U.S., but the video quickly spread through the web and is now worldwidely available in the band's official website and YouTube.
The album is a dose of heavy industrial, soaring anthems, and heavy soundscapes. The album features collaborators such as guitarist/songwriter John 5, Black Light Burns guitarist Wes Borland, and Nine Inch Nails live drummer Josh Freese.[5]
