Two anti-clockwise Antarctic gyres swirl within the southern ocean. They are known as the Weddell and Ross Gyres, as they reside in the Weddell Sea and the Ross Sea, respectively. There share many similar traits, both being anti-clockwise currents formed by interactions between the cold Antarctic Circumpolar Current and the Antarctic continental shelf.
