[edit] Copyright Policy
Good work creating new articles and contributing to exisiting ones. When you make contributions, be careful that you don't include copyrighted material. Copyright rules are complicated, so take some time to review Wikipedia:Copyrights. A good general rule is that most things on the internet are already copyrighted by someone else, so they cannot be contributed to wikipedia. Again, content from webpages is usually copyrighted and cannot be added to wiki. Keep up the good work, and feel free to contact me with questions. Feco
[edit] Move
Hello, note that copying the content of an article into another article, and redirecting, destroys the edit history necessary for the GFDL; what you are looking for is the "move" command at the top. 119 03:01, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi. In case you didn't see my reply at our previous discussion, I've set up a draft for Wikipedia:Naming conventions (military units), and hope you will join the discussion. — B.Bryant 00:45, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pictures
You've uploaded some nice pictures, for example Image:Korsunpanther.jpg. It would be nice if you could give the sources. Are these scanned from a book or downloaded from the web? Gdr 22:05, 2005 Apr 20 (UTC)

[edit] Blue Fox
Do you plan to write articles for Blue foxes 1 and 2? Just wondering because now we have redirects pointing at nothing at Operation Blaufuchs 1 and Operation Blaufuchs 2, that is usually not a good idea. I figured that these operations were so insignificant (basically just moving troops around) so that they could just redirect to Operation Silberfuchs. -- Jniemenmaa 07:23, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Molobo
Hi, are you in being involved in a possible arbcom case with user Molobo, looking into some of his edits. You might be interested to take a look here Talk:Erwin_Rommel. GeneralPatton 14:10, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
- We already have more than 5 users interested in starting an arbcom case against him, however just to be fair we'll give him a little bit of time. I’ve asked some Polish users to try to calm him down and introduce him to our concepts, he is a new user after all, however if he continues being this hostile to the rest of the community, it will unfortunately be our only choice. GeneralPatton 00:56, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Hi sir, in connection to the molobo case, I’d be interested to know your e-mail as to discuss any further action, since he seems to be continuing with his highly disputable POV edits. GeneralPatton

Ansbachdragoner, I am more then happy to take place in any discussion to reach an agreement. As to dubious claims, please point me to any of them I would be again. happy to engaged in dialog. That's fine with me, I appreciate your explanation and do not have the knowledge to support the contradictory claim, which would be a speculation only, anyway. As I stated on my talk page, I nead a break from this kind of issues and will try to avoid getting involved for the next few days in anything related to history/politics. --Lysy (talk) 06:59, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Waffen SS
Saying Waffen SS is infamous isn't POV.It is known for its Nazi fanatism and atrocities.I don't think stating that as such it is infamous is POV.Its just confirmation of a fact.Likewise Auschwitz is regarded as infamous.--Molobo 20:36, 20 September 2005 (UTC) In other words you are arguing that Waffen SS isn't know for "having an exceedingly bad reputation"
However it is widely known as such: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0850454255/ref=ase_reenactornet/104-6439099-0960721 In the early 1920s, a tiny group was formed within the SA to serve as Hitler's personal bodyguard. Originally labelled the 'Stosstruppe Adolf Hitler', they later became known as the SS – Schutz Staffeln, or 'protection squads'. From these humble beginnings, the SS rose to a nominal strength of 38 divisions of over 800,000 men by 1945, representing a sizeable portion of Germany's land forces and more importantly a quarter of her tank forces and a third of her mechanised infantry. Martin Windrow provides a splendid in-depth review of the history, uniforms and insignia of the infamous Waffen-SS.--Molobo 20:43, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Holocaust Denial
You are certainly correct in stating that there's a clear difference between Holocaust Denial and Historical Revisionism. It's precisely this distinction that Holocaust Deniers attempt to obscure. Dduff442 08:46, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Theodore von Hippel
Greetings Ansbachdragoner! We worked together briefly on the Erwin Rommel and Battle of Arras (1940) articles. My dear friend Shauri thinks very highly of your WWII German military knowledge and from what I've read of your work, she's right. I've started a biography of Theodore von Hippel, founder of the Brandenburgers. So far, I've not been able to find any further details on the Hauptmann beyond those included in the stub (which I basically plundered from your Brandenburgers article :). I dont even have his DOB/DOD. Was he another victim in the purge of the Abwehr following the July Plot? Did he participate in any of the Brandenburgers' wartime operations? I'd really like to find out and any help you can provide would be appreciated, Thanks:) "Auf, Ansbach-Dragoner! Auf, Ansbach-Bayreuth!" --R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 03:20, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I will answer
You later, I am very tired and busy at the same time, so I can't give you a lenghty responce, I will only add that the proper term in my view should be bolshevism, since Nazi's used mostly that term, and we shouldn't forget that it was always linked with subhumans and Jews.Right now the article on Waffen SS presents the aim of the Waffen SS as "fight against evils of communism". While certainly some people were attracted by such slogan the article doesn't mention that it was just one of the many and Waffen SS also had as a goal the fight against Jews and other subhumans which also attracted volunteers. In order to be precise and not to push one vision of the formation the sentence more fitting should be : During the war the organisation was presented as a multinational force protecting Europe from the perceived evils of Bolshevism and Jews (see Black Edelweiss), which attracted some ideologically motivated people.
Also national groups were declared aryan not regions so the proper sentence should be : The Reichsführer, with his penchant for medieval lore, envisioned a united aryan 'crusade', fighting to save old Europe from the 'Godless bolshevik hordes' and subhumans[1]. While volunteers from nations which had been declared Aryan were approved almost instantly, Himmler eagerly pressed for the creation of more and more foreign units. The link I gave gives specific evidence that the crusade was made not against "communism" as we understand it in modern times but as it is stated by Himmler http://www.ess.uwe.ac.uk/genocide/ssnur1.htm
. We shall take care that never again in Germany, the heart of Europe, will the Jewish-Bolshevistic revolution of subhumans be able to be kindled either from within or through emissaries from without.
Mentioning that elements of ideology is important for the article, otherwise Waffen SS could be perceived by naive or uninformed reader as founded on well meaning principles that made some mistakes, instead of being organisation founded to fight what was perceived as the Jewish-Bolshevistic revolution of subhumans
As to sentence : While many adventurers and idealists joined the SS as part of the fight against communism, Why not change it to nazi ideology ? I don't think we could argue that nobody was attracted to SS due to its Nazi ideology, of course If you would like to add that not all were, there is no problem in mentioning fight for independence of certain elements of Waffen SS. But saying that nobody was attracted to SS because of Nazi ideology seems POV.

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Ansbachdragoner, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 01:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] An Esperanzial note
As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I would like to thank you for your support for my candidacy for the Military history WikiProject coordinator position. I am now the Lead Coordinator, and I intend to do my best to continue improving the project. I don't wanna overdo it or anything, so here's just a brief note thanking you for supporting me in the WikiProject Military history coordinator elections. Cheers, and I hope I can please as Assistant Coordinator! --Loopy e 01:26, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Another Esperanzial note...
Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

[edit] Jabo
Werter Herr Ansbachdragoner!
I stand like an ant in the shadow of your impressive military-history oeuvre on these pages!
Since you are the author of the redirect pages Jabo/Jabos, I would like to solicit your opinion on my proposal to reconfigure the Jabo page as a Disambiguation, rather than as a Redirect. As far as I can tell, you are also the only contributor to link to them.
I think my proposal might be defensible with respect to the Principle of Least Astonishment, at the same time confessing a preoccupation with matters anthropological as well as military.
In, passing, though, may I be permitted to note that it jars me a bit to find a German slang term used in each case to refer to allied aircraft, much as if one were to refer to the M4 Sherman_tank as a Panzer. But I must defer to your expertise on that particular diction.

- OrphanBot does not and can not delete images. The image was deleted by JesseW.
- It is recommended but not required to notify the uploader. OrphanBot will only notify someone once a day, to prevent them from being flooded with notices -- before I implemented this, some people were getting 50 or more notices. Looking at OrphanBot's log, you've got at least five unsourced images you haven't been notified of: Image:P15 steiner.jpg, Image:Tiger_II_-_316PzKp(fkl).jpg, Image:Kurtmeyer.jpg, Image:Brandenburgers_-_Ost.jpg, Image:Brandenburgers_-_Holland.jpg.

Hi there,
In future, perhaps use some common sense before requesting images be deleted. This image is quite obviously a period engraving. 1987 is the year the piece was catalogued by the Musées de la Ville de Paris.--ansbachdragoner 23:29, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
The Journée of 13 Vendémaire, Year 4, The St. Roch Church, Honoré Street.
Source: © Photothèque des Musées de la Ville de Paris/Habouzit for 1987 CAR 5607 NB
- Yes, can you clarify who has the copyright for that image though, as you have included both a statement that it is public domain as well as "© Photothèque des Musées de la Ville de Paris/Habouzit" Is this an image of a two dimensional work taken in Europe, do you think Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. applies? Common sense doesn't always apply to copyright law unfortunately, and there is no need to attack me about it. And just to be clear, I didn't request the image be deleted, I requested the source information/license be clarified, so that hopefully we can keep the image. - cohesion 01:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Apologies if i was a tad blunt before, it juist seems a tad overwhelming what with the current Wikipedia trend which is less edits and more copyright paranoia. I deal with 'real-world' copyright law on a day to day basis, and i have yet to come across any organisation or body which operates on as strict and ruthless guidelines as some editors on wikipedia seem to. In answer to your question, yes Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. does apply to this case, as it is clearly a photographic reproduction of a PD image held by the Musées de la Ville de Paris.--ansbachdragoner 01:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, I understand how it can seem like someone is trying to delete your images. :) I was actually in the process of moving images over to the commons, not trying to delete them. (sometimes the commons people are pretty strict on licensing and it's better if there is absolutely no confusion before the move) I changed the tag based on what you said, feel free to change it back if you think it's not an improvement. - cohesion 01:34, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:BayreuthDragHoh.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:BayreuthDragHoh.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 12:38, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Ansbachdragoner. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Manchester City crest.png) was found at the following location: User:Ansbachdragoner. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 06:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:11SSShield.svg
I received the following warning for my SVG version of an image you uploaded that you claimed fair use on, so pasting this warning to you.
Thanks for uploading Image:11SSShield.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dcoetzee 06:46, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:11SSMen-Narva.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:11SSMen-Narva.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Ukrainische Gruppe Nachtigall, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Jeepday (talk) 17:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:33SSCM.jpg
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:33SSCM.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:25, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:PzDM Tiger II berlin.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:PzDM Tiger II berlin.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:14, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hube-Hans.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Hube-Hans.jpg.
Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 14:46, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:SSDIRLWC.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:SSDIRLWC.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tiger II - Buda.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tiger II - Buda.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PanzerGren - PzLehr.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:PanzerGren - PzLehr.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid.
