Anshan class destroyer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Anshan-class destroyers of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) were the first destroyer units of China. These were basically ex-Soviet Gnevny Class destroyers first acquired in the 1950s, and later modified in China by reducing the numbers of torpedo tubes and adding anti-shipping missiles launchers. Once the most powerful vessels in the PRC navy, they have been decommissioned by the 1990s. Although retired from the active service, the ships are still owned by PLAN via PLAN funded maritime/naval museums, serving as training ships for patriotic education and public relation duties. For example, Taiyuan (#104) is permanently docked at Qingdao Naval Museum, and in contrast to USS Constitution, these ships are not manned by active naval personnel. [1]
